And a few extra pounds, if they continue to get fat. They really ought to try for a spot in the Arch Rival Roller Girls.

Wait there is an artist out there that makes music for the sake of making music and is happy to just make a living at it? Pull the other one.

/I know there are more but still she is pretty cool
//She's not starving I know but still cool

I've noticed a lot of the bands that helped shape the Alternative movement of the early 90s have more or less moved on from the major labels. Good for them.

It's sad that indies like 4AD are hurting enough to let go of established acts like the Breeders. Yeah I know, paradigm shift and all that, but dinosaurs are cute. Anyways, as long as their live set isn't affected then it's still good. Although... didn't their Bostin stablemates Throwing Muses have to give up for a time due to lack of cash?

My 90's fantasy of a 3-way with her and Tanya Donnelly has not subsided with age.

/alt-cougars?

I don't recall the Deal sisters ever looking terribly thin. They don't look much different to me.

I guess there is a reason her music is free.

You're gonna have to form an orderly line behind me.

So she gained a little weight. What's the big deal?

I once paid for a Breeders cd. Maybe two. Now I wouldn't take one for free. They had tons of opportunity and they just never got good.

I'm all for good bands releasing their work on their own, the only problem I see is that labels used to be, to an extent, the taste-makers; that is, the people who filtered out the crap in favor of the stuff worth listening to.

Over time, of course, that duty was heavily diluted in favor of shoveling flavor-of-the-month crap on the record-buying retard public in search of profit to enhance shareholder value.

That said, with no Napster, how the hell are people supposed to sift through the colossal volume of music out there to find the good stuff?

you can't do that on your own...? I really hope you're being facetious and my Sarcasm Detector needs recalibrating...

Bittorrent, Soulseek, blogs, etc.

You can pretty much Google a band name or album title, along with the words "blog" or "rapidshare" and get hits on almost anything.

There's also tons of 0 day sites now.

The private Bittorrent sites are still the best places to be though. And, no, I'm not offering anything.

Saw the Pixies on my honeymoon in New Orleans in '04. I told my wife that I was going to have to leave her for Kim Deal. She said she didn't blame me. I love me wife....and Kim Deal.

No, I hadn't paid for music for years until Napster--I'd just lost interest in paying $20 for a CD that might have one decent song on it. While Napster was up, I bought 10 or 12 CDs. Since then, maybe 2 or 3. There's too much new crap to sift through. I got an email from a music service a few months ago declaring Li'l Wayne "best rapper."

Thanks for the heads up, I'd just kind of given up for a few years.

You've never seen the Cannonball video.

Side note, cut them a break. Kim's 47 and a recovered alcoholic; how do you expect her to look. Kelley's still thin, but the again she's been off and on heroin for 30 years.

Saw them last May, awesome show.

I saw the Breeders open for Nirvana, both bands played awsome sets.
As an added bonus Kelley Deal and Pat Smear were both wearing the same dress!

Got to see the Breeders with the Afghan Whigs at Hara Arena in Dayton, Ohio in 1994. Nothing quite like playing a hometown show...
