If I'm reading the article right, it was the university who made the decision to cover up the Jesus symbol. The White House simply requested that they cover up everything so as to provide a plain backdrop consistent with other speeches Obama has done.

I for one would like the Treasury department to adopt a more chestacular worldview. We could start with "In Sweet Fleshy Meat Bazoombas We Trust."
