No we're not! We're a Christian nation! The fact that the majority of our citizens are Christians makes it so. Just like the fact that the majority of our citizens being white makes this a white nation, and the fact that the majority of our citizens being female makes this a matriarchy.

No "state sponsored religion" does not mean you have cover it up or censor it like it's porn in the 1950's.

Does covering them mean there is no freedom of religion in America ?

We need to get to the bottom of who should be the victim here.

We're all the victims. Every last one of us. And soon enough we'll regret we put that monster in charge of the free world.

It really sounds like it was just aesthetics:

"Frankly, the pipe and drape wasn't high enough by itself to fully cover the IHS and cross above the GU seal and it seemed most respectful to have them covered so as not to be seen out of context."

BeefyT [TotalFark] 2009-04-16 09:29:13 AM
He was speaking at a Christian school. Why would he have to cover up the symbol? I don't get why it matters anyway.

In other words, maybe, just maybe, there was another reason for covering whatever the fark they covered. Just maybe it wasn't an attempt to ELIMINATE ALL EVIDENCE OF CHRISTIANITY TO FURTHER BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA'S WAR ON GOD!1!!!1!

Morons like the people at NRO love to feel persecuted.

SpinStopper: Read the article. All symbols. Sheesh ;)

THIS.

FTA: "In coordinating the logistical arrangements for yesterday's event, Georgetown honored the White House staff's request to cover all of the Georgetown University signage and symbols behind Gaston Hall stage," Julie Green Bataille, associate vice president for communications at Georgetown, told CNSNews.com.

All symbols were covered up, to include the Georgetown U signs. Does that mean that in addition to being an anti-Christian, secret Muslim, BO is also anti-Georgetown U. He's already demonstrated a pro-UNC tendency.

rocinante721 2009-04-16 11:04:48 AM

coyote71: He's already demonstrated a pro-UNC tendency.

Now THERE would be some awesome goodness. I can see it now...Obama strides onto the stage, where all the Georgetown University signage has been painstakingly removed or covered up per his instructions, and then pulls a big ol' UNC sign out from under his jacket and props it up in front of the podium before he starts talking. It would be beautiful.

They covered it up because it was Presidential event, not a Georgetown event.

Georgetown isn't holy because they have incorporated Christian symbols into their emblems and logos.

Idiot.

No need to cry about it. Just vote. If Obama wants to tear down our heritage as a Christian Nation, Christians should vote him and his supporters out of office next chance they get. That's simple enough.

Much ado about nothing. Especially if one takes the time and reads the full article as opposed to the short one linked:

Obama did not mention the name of Jesus during his address. However, he did mention Christ's Sermon on the Mount.

"There is a parable at the end of the Sermon on the Mount that tells a story of two men...'the rain descended and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house...it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock,'" Obama said.

NightOwl2255 2009-04-16 11:59:31 AM
Has anyone pointed out that while Ashcroft himself asked that the boobies be covered, Obama had nothing to do with what was or was not covered on the stage?

/Believe it or not the POTUS has more important things on his mind than the decorations on a stage.

Yeah, unless it's a "mission accomplished" banner on an aircraft carrier. According to libs, Bush climbed the tower and tacked that up there himself.

That one ranks high on the list of idiotic right wing talking points. Presidents usually use teleprompters. Get over it.

If I'm reading the article right, it was the university who made the decision to cover up the Jesus symbol. The White House simply requested that they cover up everything so as to provide a plain backdrop consistent with other speeches Obama has done.

brap [TotalFark] 2009-04-16 12:34:30 PM
I for one would like the Treasury department to adopt a more chestacular worldview. We could start with "In Sweet Fleshy Meat Bazoombas We Trust." Or if that is too harsh we could go for something more non-demammanational like "Of Course We're Orally Fixated And Staring At Your Chesticles, For Fecks Sake We're A Nation Of Sexually Repressed Mammals Cut Us Some Slack, Jack"

Kyosuke [TotalFark] 2009-04-16 12:41:28 PM
Ashcroft covered symbols of justice.

Obama is covering symbols of oppression.

I think Obama wins this one, too.
