I like CNN. That was a joke if that is considered journalism.

Mentat [TotalFark] 2009-04-15 09:50:18 PM
And that is the essence of teabagging. They use words like fascist and socialist interchangeably and don't even know what they mean.

sullyman 2009-04-15 10:22:52 PM
I thought reporters were suppose to just report the story and not interject their own political leaning. If I watch a news reporter and by the end I clearly know how they vote, then they fail at journalism. I'm looking at you too Fox.

My thoughts too. I expect something like that from Hannity or Olbermann, not from someone who is supposed to be a reporter.

It is all about tone. She has people taunting her. She wants to ask a question about what the person thinks of state recovery funding. Because she is all pissed off with the assholes around her, the question comes out as more of a challenge.

She was having a bad day but people should cut her some slack.

The guy she was talking too had no clue what fascism even means.. he was just parroting what he'd heard. that much was obvious.

Of course the conservatives are defending him. They like ignorance in their followers.

Ignorance is not knowing what a reporter is supposed to do.

You really don't understand what a reporter is suppossed to do, do you? Let me ask you this; Do you think Sean Hannity and Keith Olbermann are reporters?

Olbermann does some reporting (he often cover stories that other people just plain don't), but is mostly commentary. I can't stand watching Hannity long enough to know if he ever does any.

The fact of the matter is those people are just plain idiots, and it's hardly the reporter's fault that they are. They are making statements without ANY reasoning or rationale behind then, which on topics they clearly don't understand the first thing about. Frankly, she was being nicer to them than they deserved.

A reporter is there to report, that is all. Once they start wanting to cut people off and start interjecting their opinion, it is no longer reporting. People will say dumb things(just like this guy did), just let them say their piece though. Remember Baghdad Bob? He said stupid things all the time. No reporter cut him off and started arguing with him. That is not the role of a reporter. She failed at her job.

I don't care whether you like Obama or not- calling him a fascist is an insult to free speech. You're wasting an ability to criticize government with these absurdities?

I hope more reporters start correcting these idiots.

Fact =! opinion.

She was asking if the man knew what Illinois was getting as far as stimulus money and if he knew that he was actually getting a tax CUT, not a raise. I didn't hear her inject her opinion at all. I was actually surprised after reading your reaction that she DIDN'T take the guy to task. She made a stupid comment about the gathering being sponsored by Fox, but she also had people swearing at her and knocking her head with banners, so we can forgive her a little bit.

When did her opinion come out?

How is a reporter correcting a fool an insult to freedom of speech? The idea that the media is required to engage in tomfoolery is retarded.

Actually- she did do the reporting- the story is that protesters don't have a clue what they are talking about, and making openly insulting and false insinuations about our President.

To say that Bush, Obama, or even most politicians are nazis, or fascists, is an absolute joke.

Any journalist worth half a shiat is not going to sit idly by, conducting some 60-second man-on-the-street piece as directed by the assignment editor, and allow said man to bark out loads of nonsense positioned as fact.

A journalist's role is to seek the truth and report it. Without the former, the latter isn't worth a damn.

So, this loudmouthed ass seized on the opportunity to yammer into the lens his absurd, broken-record agitprop horseshiat and the journalist correctly and rightfully challenged him, despite a palpably hostile crowd.

And Baghdad Bob?? What the.. Are you farking retarded?

No. What the fark do you think is a reporter's job?

To ask questions. To find answers. To challenge the system. They are not your personal publicist. If you say or do something stupid, especially as political stunt, their obligation is to get the story- up and to including pointing out you are an intellectual joke.

Stop demanding the media not function so you can act retarded.

sloppy shoes: How is a reporter correcting a fool an insult to freedom of speech? The idea that the media is required to engage in tomfoolery is retarded.

Bad wording- my offense was taken at the point that calling Obama a fascist should be forbidden, and the reporter(s) should tell people not to do it.

I think of free speech as welfare for ideas. Rich people don't need government cheese, just like people capable of rational, thought out arguments or vigorous rhetoric don't need help to make people listen to them. These tea baggers are blazing morons that I wish would fark off and die in a fire, but people like them will always be around, and trying to censor their ilk will only lead to opening the doors for censoring of other things. Sort of a, they came for the Jews but I wasn't a Jew, defense.

I'd like to point out that my entire argument wouldn't be necessary if the media wasn't so goddam stupid that they gave these idiots air time in the first place.

That is exactly what a reporter does. There are editorials and commentators that also go along in journalism. They are not the same thing as reporters. I'm not the one who needs to go back to journalism 101.

The problem lies in those situations when there's no point being made--when it's just another asshole whose brain is vibrating with bits and pieces of disconnected rage who happened to walk into a camera crew.

Nope. Nobody benefits from the loose ramblings of a clueless, apoplectic parrot.

You wouldn't be saying that if this was a Fox reporter interrupting a liberal protester. Proper reporters listen, even to rambling, idiotic points, then counter-argue. Plus, letting one of these idiots show that they are absolute idiots destroys their credibility better than any reporter could, even one that proved that the protester was acting against his better interests because he's been brainwashed.

A reporter reports what they said. A good reporter gets an opposing view from a law official to show they are full of crap.

Look, stupidity isn't a red or blue phenomenon. It's deeply entrenched on both sides and, sadly, seemingly embraced.

In this particular case, the most glaring fault of the journalist was her negligence in finding somebody with even so much as a narrow sliver of understanding of the "cause." Instead, she pulled a tall guy with a cute kid, which, as the segment proved, is no guarantee of a sane interview.

You're a retard. You don't need "expert" opinion for every issue.

Is Obama's silence on the issue a sign he hates gays? Is Obama insulting Democrats to their face?

Or is Obama trying to end legitimate marriage and destroy morality?
