Hey, your producers were told not to make statements like these

man, he sounds pissed - as in drunk.

I read that as Pat Hentgen and Tom Henke, and wondered why they'd be in any group with Idle and Petty.

Eric Idle didn't need to make jokes about George dying in Paul's house.

Paul tried to keep that a mystery to prevent the place from becoming a creepy shrine which is very much what the front door to the Dakota is today in NYC.

WOW.

In that picture in the article, it looks like Jeff Lynne hasn't aged a day in 20-something years.

My new favourite Harrison song:
"When We Was Fab" [1988]
so damn catchy, i had it in my head for 2 days straight.

Link (new window)

and here's "the Art of Dying" (1970)
[* fact: Phil Collins played drums on this song]

Another good, catchy one from All Things Must Pass:

"Awaiting On You All" (live performance, 1971) (^)

When I was in grade nine, THIS exact song from the Concert From Bangladesh was what inspired me to seriously learn bass (thanks to my man Klaus Voormann!) from which I later switched to guitar, and have never looked back.

George Harrison is my GOD.

George Harrison would also tell Eric Idle that he wasn't dead, just sleeping.

Um, what dude? I don't se that in the article.

As far as Eric Idle and death goes, you have to understand that the whole of the Monty Python group have a pretty positive attitude about death.

And George was a follower of Eastern philosophy, so he understood that dying well is part of life. Check out the song "The Art of Dying" and you'll get a good sense of how he viewed death.

Okay, it's nice that Tom Hanks was there...for some reason. But where the fark was Ringo?

Yeah, why was Tom Hanks there?

My favorite Beatle. Seemed the most straightforward of the four, followed by Ringo.

It was in an REUTERS video I saw yesterday covering the story.

Idle made jokes about Paul being a real friend letting him die in his house and he hoped Cleese would let him die in his house. Very poor taste IMO.

I haven't seen the movie in a while, but I'm pretty sure Tom Hanks was their manager.

Could he be pouting any harder in that pic? He should challenge Bruce Willis to a cage match pout off.

That's actually pretty funny. Cleese described Idle as "the one who lives as an expat in LA, being professionally clever."

Like I said, these guys have a pretty positive attitude about the inevitability of death. It's a lot healthier than most people's way of (not) dealing with it.

He was part of the 2001 Concert for George as well - performed the Lumberjack Song with the Pythons. That doesn't answer the question, but certainly adds to the mystery...

My guess is that he became a friend of the Harrisons at some point, but I've never heard him say as much. George had a a home in LA from the late 70's on, so they could have met there.

Hanks is an admitted Beatles fanatic, FWIW.

The other possibility is that he's invited to these things because the people who put them together think that George's real friends (Petty, Idle, etc) aren't famous enough.
