Yeah, 'cause it would never work.

Anywhere.

Oh, except maybe Japan.

And Europe.

And anywhere there is a high population density. Like... oh... the East Coast.

Here's my proposition:

Almost everyone who is against high speed rail has not been outside of America in 40 years.

Anyone who goes to Europe, China, Japan, Korea...anywhere. High speed rail is AWESOME.

Who gives a crap??

I'd rather them spend it on something REAL instead of lining the pockets of the thieves in the banking industry!

What is so asinine about high speed rail? This country could stand to have some.

Nah. That one is being funded by Nevada and California, from what I gather. The CA lines they mention are probably San Diego to LA to SF to Sacramento and back to LA.

damageddude [TotalFark] 2009-04-14 08:05:18 PM
I definitely can see it in more populated areas, assuming they can get the land to build high speed tracks, such as the North East where cities are fairly close. In those areas people can go from city to city and take local mass transit on both ends (or suburbs to city assuming parking garages along the way). But Iowa?

I am beginning to admire the 29% Butthurters. They have absolutely nothing real to talk about, but despite repeated failure and ridicule from the vast majority of the sentient population, they continue to find (or pay) feeble-minded trolls to manufacture faux outrage.

I don't care how high speed the rail is. How the hell am I going to get my car on the train?

adamgreeney 2009-04-14 08:11:06 PM
There was a gentleman on On Point weeks ago talking about the way recessions change how a population spreads out and how that helps recovery. His main point was that the only way the US could grow and move forward was for us to create these hubs that would connect cities to each other. Much like New York connects into DC and Boston and so on. Every city needs to stop trying to be independent and form relationships with other major area around it to attract brain power and industry. The only way to truly do this is with high speed rail.

Imagine if Detroit could connect to Chicago and Toronto quickly and easily. It could attract the type of people it needs and use it's manufacturing power to the benefit of everyone around it. Rails are the only way to make this possible.

No confusion would be possible to any being with more than eight working neurons*.

Why can't we have the fastest trains? We have one of the largest countries and largest economies?

Shaggy_C 2009-04-14 11:09:50 PM
It would reduce the usage of fossil fuels, which I'm all for. What's the problem conservatives? Mad that you won't be using the train, so no one else should be allowed to? Let me remind you that their is a usage fee to ride Amtrak, so it's not just freeloaders.

I'd love high speed rail between Seattle and LA, or New York and Miami, with stops at major points in between.

JohnnyC 2009-04-14 11:15:05 PM
Let me guess, subby. You don't like it because Obama likes it. Well alright. If we get you a list of all the other things and ideas he likes, will you rail against those things as well? I think that would be hilarious. Maybe you could start a blog listing all the things you boycott because Obama likes them. I mean ALL the things he likes. Well... except one. Because he might like you too... and I don't see how you could boycott yourself very well. If you really work it hard, you might even get a Fox Reality Channel show or a spot on Fox News. They like that kind of thing.

Well... Good luck. Maybe you can suck it sometime while we're on a high speed rail someday in the not so far future.

Carth 2009-04-14 11:16:20 PM
FTFA: Midwestern governors recently wrote Secretary LaHood asking for $3.4 billion of the funding to build up high-speed rail corridors in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin.

Who the fark would build high speed rail in the midwest before the east coast. BosNYWash was made for highspeed rail.
