not everything can sound like "Even Flow" or "Jeremy", subby. Sometimes bands grow up. sometimes their songs don't make it to 'Guitar Hero'. We live, we deal.

Yes, Cameron Crowe has way too little experience with music-themed films. I sure hope he can manage.

Why all the PJ hate lately? Listen to their latest stuff...they're way better than ever.

If you want to see a good band documentary go see the new one about Anvil. The real life Spinal Tap.

fakr you subby, Pearl Jam rocks.

Eddie Vedder is a douche though.

At this point, there is absolutely nothing interesting about either liking or disliking Pearl Jam. Just so you know.

yeah, kind of this. PJ is boring, but not boring enough to muster up hate. So... meh.

Yeah, pretty much. I vaguely associate Pearl Jam with guys who make a face like they're pooping while they play guitar solos.

sweet it's a "I hate your band therefore you're a huge loser"-off!

/Personally think Pearl Jam is big bowl full of melted shiatsicles.
//Doesn't mean I think the same of people who like them.

This is stupid.

I'm looking forward to the movie. I heard that they are digging into their archives and using footage of old (and new) interviews, concerts, backstage, etc... so this will be really cool for the Pearl Jam fans. As for Cameron Crowe, he did a great job producing Single Video Theory back in 1998, so I'm sure he'll do a great job with this project too.

My favorite was on MTV unplugged, when Eddie put his chest on his stool and pretended he was swimming (and the audience cheered), then the bass player hopped up on the bass drum and hit the cymbal with his tuning pegs (and the audience cheered more), and then Eddie STOOD UP (gasp) on his stool which had a rotating seat and then kind of twisted his body around a little bit at a time (and the audience went wild).

Man, that was so cool, it totally summed up what early 90s music was all about.

Slu 2009-04-14 12:36:12 PM
To each his own. I like Pearl Jam and all their DVDs have been excellent.

The latest DVD that covers their recent tour of Italy is excellent.

Love or hate their music, all bands should treat their fans as well as Pearl Jam does. I don't care for NIN, but he treats his fans the same way.

You left out the most awesome part when he started writing on himself with magic marker. If that isn't live awesomeness, I don't know what is.

/did like PJ unplugged

The lead guitarist has Chrones disease...so give him a break if he is pooping during guitar solos, Dick.

You know, because he mixes in his political opinions while his band is playing a set longer than pretty much any other band plays night in night out.

I tune him out for the moments he is talking politics. It's not that difficult.

I met him once, he seemed like a pretty nice guy.

I was at one PJ concert where they ended up playing for 3 1/2 hours. That was the only time I've ever witnessed any band do this in the near 1000 concerts that I've attended. Actually, I've never been to a PJ show where they played less than 2 hours but more often than not, it's a minimum 2 1/2 hours.

As for the politics, the band voted Obama so the 2009 tour should be darn near commentary free.

Exactly. Putting aside personal tastes about music (your favorite band sucks), every fan can agree that the job of the musician is to give the fans what they want. Pearl Jam stuck their necks out to try and break Ticketmaster so that fans could get good seats to their shows at reasonable prices. They pioneered releasing CDs and MP3s from every show on a tour so that fans could have a record of *their* show and completionists could have entire tours to peruse. They play generous sets so fans get their money's worth. You don't have to like their music or their politics, but you damn well better respect their devotion to the fans.

No kidding. If for a decent price I can listen to them jam away (and not run away from their classics while doing so, either) for well over two hours often, I'll put up with Eddie conducting a macramé lesson during intermission.

^THIS!^

I've been to a lot of shows and PJ has always given a first class performance, unlike Oasis, Pantera, The Arctic Monkeys, Misfits, G&R, etc. Are they my favorite band? No. Would I happily pay to see them again? Hell yes!

I'm always wildly amused by headlines claiming irrelevancy of their topics. The irony of submitter feeling that they're relevant enough to justify a fark headline is likely lost on subby, though.

The one time I bought a ticket the show was canceled due to the venue being flooded. Got a refund but damn it, wanted to see PJ.

No you don't... they did it in 2006 (maybe 2005.. my memory escapes me..) and it was horrible. One of those songs they need Dave A for.

zunkus 2009-04-14 04:54:36 PM
Definetely one of my all time favorite bands, they do treat us fans really well. Been to 6 PJ shows and all were well over 2 hours. Best bang for the buck in live music there is.

actually the entire Ten album is available for download for Rock Band, Guitar Hero 2 or 3 had Pearl Jam in it...and it's appeared more, I'm sure.

Binaural is my absolute favorite Pearl Jam album...think I'll listen to it now. very classic rock

STRYPERSWINE 2009-04-14 06:09:52 PM
Well, their FIRST album was good. Temple of the Dog was Better. And Mother Love Bone was even better.

Wookie Milson 2009-04-14 06:23:16 PM
PJ has matured very nicely. They've become a sort of Grateful Dead of Grunge... and I mean that in a good way.

Richard Roma 2009-04-14 07:17:14 PM
Pearl Jam started off great, changed as they got older yet stayed great, and never became a bunch of arrogant, hedonistic rock star douchebags. The music business would greatly benefit from having more people like them around.

Just came here to say Pearl Jam sucks. If there was one band I wish never existed, it would be Pearl Jam. There I said it. Someone had to.

Seriously.

Was it Cincinnati, 2003? If so, I was supposed to go see that show too. God damn Ohio river. Did get to see them when they went through the area again in 2006 though, and it was a great show.

They seem to catch a lot of hate these days. Not sure why, for me they are up there with the greats like The Who. They're very much a modern day The Who in spirit. And they're one of a few groups you'll see a lot of the classic rock legends show much respect for.

I have just extended my honeymoon by a week so I can see Pearl Jam play.

Subby, you suck.

Wow, good news indeed. Last time I saw these guys was at Key Arena during the whole anti-ticketmaster thing.
Can't wait to see Eddie rocking again.
