Yeah i don't think metal has been "underground" since . . . hmm . . . ever?

John Paul Jones [TotalFark] 2009-04-13 07:11:41 PM
Never has a genre of music relegated to the underground of a civilization had so many devotees had such a low barrier of entry.

Seriously.

whoa hey let's be clever here but not too clever. Don't want to overstimulate the McSweeney's audience of fresh faced young college people as they take that first step away from the quirky writings of Chuck Palahniuk.

Yes, but I bet that my favorite band isn't in there though.

Hey, hey, hey - just a minute there Sparky. The Isorhythmic motet was WAY more underground back in the 1390s. You got no idea, man.

Never! We shall only stop when there are more metal subgenres than metal bands!

Bullshiat. What about underground/college rock and post-punk in the 1980s?

That book isn't new. It's strangely entertaining, though.

It's a wonderful conversation piece; I've had it for nearly a year, and guests cannot resist picking it up.

Came to say that as well. I actually saw that exact book at the Hawthorne location of Powell's in the Employee Picks section, almost a year ago.

But then again, the fact that the link came from Powell's was the only reason I bothered reading, since I already knew about the book.

Yeah...not like rap, or boy/girl bands, or country, or the umpteen gazillion sub-genres of electronic music.

Seriously.

I dunno. We've been doubling up the adjectives lately too. "Progressive Nuskool Breaks." "Minimal Detroit Tech House."

Just sayin'. If we're not number one yet, we will be by the end of the week. :p

When I want to see elitist douchebags in action, when it's not Sunday, I head over to Metal-Archives and read the reviews on 'popular' Metal bands. Machine Head is far and away, the best source of hilarious reviews, ever. "Dude, they copied their album artwork off of a demo in Australia from a band with a single independent label release! Never mind that the demo actually is a low quality photoshop job, THEY STOLE IT! THEY SUCK! SELLOUTS! WHARRrrrrrrrrgarbl."

Lumber Jack Off 2009-04-14 06:53:36 AM
yeah, the reviews on metal archive are kind of a joke.

it does have it's usefulness though, like who's who in the band, where they're from, their releases and any side projects they may be involved in. I tend to ignore the reviews as I usually just get pissed off and the elitism that is so prevalent in them.

Why do they have to have 4 members? I've heard of some more popular metal bands with only 3 members. The names escape me right now. Maybe some of ya'll can help me out.
