He has some weird form of tourettes... mumbles like my grandfather. Kind of interferes with the music

Is he sitting on a phone book?

I counted more than one note.

There were at least two. Maybe more.

Bought a Garner cd from Goodwill two weeks ago with him playing solo.

Awesome stuff.

Came here to say that. It would be more impressive if he could entertain me with just Eb or something, but he's pretty good.

This is very common among jazz players -- I think it's hilarious. Will Farrell kind of pariodied it in Anchorman, he'd play a lick and go "uuuhh".

But yeah I can see how it would be distracting for some.

That's an interesting read on that number. Any Jobim is good Jobim.

Distracting? It's the musical equivalence of someone silently the words in a book while they're reading.

It's a bad habit.

Apparently editing is a bad habit for me. I meant to remove "silently" and keep "mouthing".

That's what I get for taking the day off and sleeping in I guess.

I read that a Jizz piano, after just leaving the Marlyn Chambers thread.

Many great pianists have done it though, Bud Powell, Glenn Gould, Sviatoslav Richter amoung them... so, equating the verbal grunts and humming to moving one's lips while reading really undermines your assertion.

As mentioned above I understand why someone would find it unpleasant but it's never bothered me personally and I think referencing it as a flaw in a pianist is... pathetic and vulgar.

I never said it was a flaw, simply that it was a bad habit.

It's like a musician keeping time with a metronome. It's OK while practicing but it isn't something that you should bring onto the stage with you.

Always liked Errol Garner. But my personal favorite has been and will always be Jan Johansson. I can listen to Jazz på Svenska for hours upon hours and not have a care in the world

Oscar Peterson would like a word with you. If you were hip, you'd probably understand. Stay out, jive turkey.

Wow. Nice to see Erroll Garner getting a little attention. The guy was a spectacular, but overlooked piano genius. I have several of his LPs, but one in particular, "Afternoon Of An Elf" is a notable solo piano album. And especially since he broke two fingers on his right hand and they were in a splint while he recorded the album. You'd never be able to tell it. And on tracks like "St. James Infirmary", he just pounds the Hell out of the piano. Remarrkable stuff.
