Love that picture of the Aero-Train. Cool site.

My cousins had a wagon that looked just like this. You could get 4 adults and 6 children in that thing, especially in a time where adults were less than concerned with seat belts (1970s).

Nice pics, but when this hits the main page their server is gonna crash like James Dean.

We had one of those, my parents would just throw my brother and me in the back with a couple of sleeping bags for the 2 day drive to grandma's house.

First thing I noticed, all the adults are dressed well... what ever happened to that?

Epsilon: Nice pics, but when this hits the main page their server is gonna crash like James Dean.

The pics aren't hosted on their forum server, so it's like Fark, a million pics on a page just means a slow load time while you wait to hit every photobucket, imageshack etc server to get all the pics.

Damn I wish I had my scanned slides with me right now I have one of my father and grandfather from 1957 that would make you think twice about that statement. Not sloppy but sunglasses are necessary when looking at their matching shirts.

Saw these pics and spent a good while lost in them, thought I would share with everyone.

Came for the Kingwood station wagons. Saw 2 and am satisfied. Spent my youth being chauffeured in these 350ci engined beasts. Mini-vans are for wussies. Big iron with a bigger motor are for real moms.

Also drooled over the old sports cars.

I look at these and wish I was alive for those times. I look at our architecture and social settings now and I doubt it will be anything special in 60 years when people look back at the pictures of today.

Nice find! These are a little before my time, but fun to look at nonetheless.

I picked myself up a very expensive Nikon film scanner last year, and have spent a lot of time scanning old negatives and slides from my family and my wife's family. The oldest I've scanned so far date back to 1961 - the quality of this scanner is incredible, and with digital color correction and whatnot, these pictures look better than ever. I gave a CD to my father-in-law to show him a sampling of what I was up to (he hadn't seen the pictures in literally decades), and when I later asked him how he liked it, I thought he was going to cry. He can't wait for me to finish them all. :-)

Hatman013, was that taken near the ocean? Why is that one guy wearing a life jacket?

This. Feeling nostalgic for something I never knew sort of tugs at my heartstrings.

I love this kind of thing. Tells you more about the time than old movies and TV shows ever could.

richmassena23 2009-04-12 08:48:44 PM
The 4th one down, I've seen that on Flickr before. It's from Lamesa Texas. As of last year, the car was still on top of the building like that.

there were two in there of the Atlantic City Boardwalk back in the day. Really classy place, none of the sleaze there is today.

Have to agree the people were dressed way classier, though i do prefer the slutty outfits you see on the boardwalks these days.

this. it was more like the movie "Blue Velvet" everything was all nice on top and dark on the bottom.

Still, this was awesome. I grew up in the 50's and 60's and it certainly was a different state of mind back then.

I remember trying to sit on my boyfriend's car.
The car wax was slippery, my stockings were silky and I slid off and hit my head on the bumper.

It is definitely Atlantic City, if you look close the signs say Atlantic city. But Ocean City is a good guess

You_Really_Like_Me: Ahh...such an innocent time....

Innocent? Oh hell no. That looks like 8th ave, near 42st. 42 street back then, was wall to wall peepshows, strip shows, porno, and dildo emporiums, hookers, dope dealers, 3 card monte dealers, pimps, and junkies.

The only non sex businesses, were the ones where you buy fake IDs, or switchblades, foreign cigarettes, or booze.

It's more innocent now, if anything. Now that street has nothing but the same sanitized, homogenized, overpriced crap businesses that you can find at any mall in the country.

I miss it, it was fun.

Spaghettiows 2009-04-12 09:27:21 PM
This is a great find.

I was 8 years old in 1975. Back then, I thought 2009 would be so much cooler than it actually turned out to be.

Looking back, 1975 was one of the last great years to be alive in America, before political correctness and Reaganomics double teamed on the middle class utopia we had for the 30 years that followed World War II.

zahal: Missing a few pics.

This.

Sure, forty years or more will make anything look better, but I get so tired of hearing people piss and moan about how things were so much better back than before gay rights, women's rights, welfare, the removal of God from our schools, abortion, whatever.

No, things aren't perfect now, but they never have been.

Holy crap, that's looking down Freemont Street in Las Vegas! You can see the 4 Queens tower and The Plaza at the end of the street. Everything else there is different now. (There was a Woolworths on Freemont Street! Ha!)
