It is best to lie to yourself. If you do it long enough you will believe it. I do what i want, with who i want, when i want, do you?

It's true!

We don't even have to leave the house to be turned down for sex.

Been married, cohabited and lived alone. Quite happy alone, thank you very much. Screw you Pew.

ActionReplayNick: "'Single' != not married"

I know quite a few couples who are "married" in the true sense of the word, who have never been before a judge or man of the cloth...

Some of those were by choice, some are restricted legally. Either way, they embody the meaning of devoted love much deeper than their married equivalents.

I think that applies to both single and married people.

Why is this is a surprise? Anyone who's been in a good relationship knows it makes you happier. Is someone trying to argue relationships are bad?

I would like to see a study which compared married people to couples of the same length which aren't married.

So what is your point?

Overall, parents are happier than adults who have no children, but this gap disappears once a person's marital status is considered. That is, married people with children are about as happy as married people without children. And unmarried people with children are about as happy as unmarried people without children.

SUCK IT BREEDERS... Seriously I hate it when people get all high and mighty about how us non-breeders are missing out on something super-special-awesome and how our lives are miserable and empty because we don't get want to experience raising children. Nice to know they can go STFU now ;P

Filing joint taxes usually means a lower tax rate. Sorry, that's all I've got.

The best wedding anniversary present I ever received was my finalized divorce decree.

Maybe it makes you happier. Me personally, I'm fine either way.

When I have a girlfriend that's great, but when it's just me, myself, and I that's just as good too.

I said "good relationship". Of course its easy to have a girlfriend or spouse you don't like very much or it has no affect. Of course I don't know you so I have no idea what kind of emotional state you have, but as a matter of human evolution, we're sort of meant to be with someone. Part of our basic psychology.

Well, married people get lower car insurance rates. That's all I can think of.

And this post shows why non-breeders don't want children: it's because they emotionally still ARE children.

I guess they might be until the divorce that is then they are just as miserable as everyone else, if not more

In marriage, the only thing that sucks is the relationship.

Single men don't live as long as married men butt, married men are more willing to die.

Except for the part about doing Sean Bean. But if I should ever catch him in these parts, well, hubby said it was okay as long as I don't brag about it.

cowsspinach: The only thing I'm pissed off about married folks is that they get tax breaks.

Not true. I did taxes and saw that a married couple without children under 18 actually pays more in taxes. I remember doing the taxes for an elderly couple who were heartbroken to announce they lived in sin (their words) because it would have farked up both their Social Security pensions and made less money if they actually tied the knot. That's messed up big time.

quisph 2009-04-12 01:02:45 PM
Psychologists now understand that we manufacture our own happiness. It is much easier to do this if you're married, because when shiatty things happen, you have someone to blame besides yourself. ;)

LegacyDL 2009-04-12 01:04:12 PM
Familiarity breeds contempt.

The people who are "happily married" are people who either love their kids and don't want to break up their household with a divorce or have settled down and realized that their spouse is the best that they could get at the moment and they don't want to have to spend 5 years of their life getting somebody else used to the smell of their farts.

technofiend [TotalFark] 2009-04-12 01:04:40 PM
That's the classic kind of ignorance that ruins marriages... you are exactly the same person before and after you are married. Or as my wife says: single douchebag, married douchebag, subby. People going into marriages with unrealistic expectations are just setting themselves and their marriages up for failure.
