He was a little more endearing because he was so meek.

She could could almost immediately start making a very good living in London or West end theatre. She might or might not sell manyrecordings because of her age and looks. Her voice is fine but she might be a hard sell to the people who buy music/ go to concerts from up and coming acts.

Somewhat oddly, she was married to a 3rd-rate British "comedian" / gameshow presenter named Les Dennis for a while, but then had an affair with Neil Morrisey (of Men Behaving Badly) and went partly mad. I saw her interviewed on TV and was very erratic and possibly drunk.

All that said, she's one of the prettiest women I've ever seen.

There was a few under-winded notes here and there, but for the most part, that was simply gorgeous.

I'd love to hear her take on some Ethel Merman numbers. She's got the lungs and the pipes for it.

If I was one of the other competitors on the show, I'd be pretty damn scared after that.

Oh, and just to indulge in a little flight of fancy, I hope there's lots of people who made fun of the old cat-loving spinster before now who are now FARKING CHOKING ON IT. :)

God that was a set up. I hate to be a downer, but for the crowd to go wild so early, this was obviously a set up... even Simon's reaction was prematue... You mean to tell me that out of so many years of his career he hasn't learned to "not judge a book by its cover"

Not melisma, vibrato. She has a little too much of it, but that can be cleaned up. She has an incredible voice.

Melisma is where you bend a note through three or four octaves for emphasis -- can be very effective when done right, but annoying as all hell when overused (see: Beyonce, Boys II Men, Mariah Carey, etc...)

Damn pollen, has me tearing up and sniffling.

She's not GREAT at that style of singing, yet, but she's a million times better than any random person off the street. With a little coaching, she could easily sing on the West End, but that's not just about singing; those are actors. Stage presence is raw amateur, but duh, that's what she is.

She's good enough, and has enough sentimental audience enthusiasm, that she'll sell at least one album of Broadway favorites, and might become a star in Britain just doing that. Too old and homely for America, which is a knock on us, not her. She's certainly more talented than other "Idol" types who have made careers out of their talent show appearance.

Simon, of course, knows all this, but he knows a potential bankroll when he sees one.

Very moving. Really cool lady. Would have been nice if they allowed her an encore, even a small one. Hope she can have some fun with her talent.
