FTA: He told the Daily Mail: 'I went into the nightclub toilet and saw a small white polythene bag which had what I presumed was cocaine in it.

'I picked it up but as I did so a bouncer looked over the top of the cubicle, saw me with the bag and asked me to move out.

'He took me to the front of the club and said he was going to inform the police. I was subsequently arrested. I was tested for drugs and it came back clear.'

The guy isn't even a user?! I hope he sues for defamation of character.

The gist of the article: People are butthurt because this teacher's life isn't being ruined and being made into a pariah.

While exceedingly difficult, it is possible to be a responsible and productive crackhead. It's not some evil voodoo that makes people do things they don't want and never be the same.

Unlikely. People aren't in the habit of just leaving bags of coke lying around. You keep up with that shiat.

Y'know, if this had happened in his car or home, I'd be skeptical of his 'It isn't mine officer, I swear, I just found it' defense. But in a club? Perfectly possible, and pretty damn likely as well.

Hell, I know lots of people who are totally productive members of society but also like to do coke on the weekends. The two are not mutually exclusive.

I don't know. I'm going to give the guy the benefit of the doubt. He was found with the bag and tested negative. There is no reason to assume that he is a drug user when situations like this (finding traces of drugs) are fairly uncommon at clubs.

I have found both heroin and cocaine is club bathrooms. People do stupid shiat when they are high, like heroin and cocaine.

Yeah, I've heard stories of expensive finds during various events.

And aside from that, the whole argument is that he's being a "bad role model" for students, by holding a bag of drugs in a club bathroom. If it wasn't for this article, his students wouldn't have even heard of the incident unless they are in the habit of searching club bathrooms.

You've never been in a Nightclub once, have you?

I have found lines in bathrooms in NYC plenty of times. Wouldn't touch it though... could be Drano, heroin or god knows what. Would rather live to see another day.

ambercat 2009-04-11 10:40:43 PM
Yeah, it actually isn't as unlikely as it sounds. People get high as farkall, go into the bathroom to do some more, but are so high that after they pee they forget why they went in there in the first place and leave without their drugs.

I've found lots of empty bags, but no, never been lucky enough to find a full one. I've found lines and residue, but never found a bag with coke in it.

True dat. If there is something mysterious, don't touch it. Although I watched a lot of cop shows where a guy walks over to a freshly killed guy as the killer runs off, and picks up the murder weapon and is then on the run from the law which shows up at just that moment.

But I can see a well meaning person, particularly a teacher picking it up. After all, if he found it in a desk he would pick it up and take it to the principals office.

"Mr Swann was arrested by South Yorkshire Police in October 2007 outside Rotherham's Liqschooluid club. They released him with a caution, but were obliged to report the incident to the GTC. However, it chose not to take any further action after looking at Mr Swann's performance as a teacher."

I bet they let him keep his job in addition because ... because he looka lika man.

John Dunford, of the Association for School and College Leaders, said the decision sent out the wrong message.

'This represents an inadequate warning to others who might set a similarly bad example to children,' he added.

A similarly bad example of what? I don't necessarily accept his answer as truthful, but no real action was taken against him by giving the man the benefit of the doubt due to his prior record. F*ck you Mr. Dunford, were I to agree with you that this man used cocaine you his teaching skills were not impaired. You are either unfairly vilifying the man or over-demonizing the drug, and both are less desirable lessons for the students.

Scott: [Raises his fist in the air] Yeah!

Dave: Yeah. I've smoked pot.

Scott: All right!

Dave: Yeah. I've tried heroin. [Class is silent.] A few times, yeah. Yeah, and ya know class? What I'm really trying to do now, is I'm really really really trying hard to cut down on the number of times that I try heroin [pauses] in a day.

I've known a number of cokeheads over the years. Yeah, it doesn't immediately turn you into a lunatic. But it does eventually consume your life.

So, a teacher in Florida lost his job for practicing witchcraft, but the guy with coke is a "good role model?" Wow, that's sad.

Obviously kids' role models should be people that never make big mistakes, EVER. That's the ticket to a healthy psyche, flawlessness or going down in flames!

Are you implying that because some supervisor or something in Florida made a poor decision, other people elsewhere should have impaired judgement? I agree that if someone loses their job solely over witchcraft that did not involve harm, that's probably a sad situation. But it has no relation to this totally different situation.

Well if he's not a fundie or a republican, he must be innocent.

Obviously, people consider drug users and child molesters as good role models if they are a Teacher (preferably female and hittable).
