Most of those tattoos are very trashy. I don't even want to think about how ugly the people are who have them. But The ones towards the end that were more intricate were really farking cool.

What's funny is that the people who are SOOO proud of their tattoos, for the most part, are the people who have the worst tattoos.

Most of the people with really nice work by well respected artists, could care less about submitting their pieces to the local news station's "Show Us Your Ink" gallery.

The more horrible tattoo galleries I see, the more firmly I decide to never get a tattoo. The risks of looking like a moron for life, or until my tattoo is too faded and wrinkled to be recognizable, are far too great.

I used to work at a gift shop and this looks like these little statuettes we sold. http://www.willowtree.info/ They were probably the most sought after and most useless things I have ever seen in my entire life. Some people would spend hundreds of dollars just trying to finish up sets. So many people bought these things that it increased the basic cost of the resin used to make the statues on a wholesale level. Equally as retarded as a tattoo of said statuettes.

I'm planning to head out to San Jose for a convention this July and got word that State of Grace (new window) is very good. Should I go to them or should I save up to meet Anil Gupta (new window) in NYC?

Head to the convention, watch some artists work, and make a decision based on that. Don't pick the nicest tattoo artist you talk to. Pick the best. Gupta stays booked up about 4 months in advance, so it's not like you walk in and he gets right to it. He does do amazing work though.

/heading back up to NYC next month for another 6 hours of Gupta pounding on my thigh.
