One wouldn't think a star of Springsteen's caliber would need to brag about something like this.

I hate to break it to you subby, but half the population of New Jersey can make that claim.

My personal experience with Springsteen says he's a selfish douche.

At his last show in Phoenix, I got to work it. He arrived 20 some odd minutes late to the sound check. That happens sometimes. It's almost standard--but his folks had finished their portion of the set up an hour early. Very professional crew.

The douchebag part isn't the arriving late. That happens. But, he made the arena hold the doors while he did his late sound check, while folks waited in lines, with the desert wind whipping along about 20 some odd miles per hour. Fun times.

Then he went downstairs. And the show started better than an hour late. Again, things sometimes happen to delay a show. Save in this case, it's because he wanted to watch a basketball game.

He made folks, who sat in the wind and grit waiting to get in, so he could watch basketball before a show.

Now, mind you, he has a history of starting shows late. Lot of acts do. But, I've have worked with folks who are professionals for years. Wynton Marsalis. Willy Nelson. Dave Brubeck. Suzanne Vega. Henry Rollins. Not small acts came through the club, or the theater, and making folks wait like that was absolutely the pinnacle of unprofessionalism. None of those folks made their fans sit in the weather like that, and all of them started their shows on time, because they realized that they were privileged to be able to do what they loved for a living. You get paid to sing, you get up and do the job, or you stay at home, or you stick to the studio where you waste less folks' time.

I've not been a fan of Springsteen, ever, really, but having worked with him now, fark him. He's a selfish pompous ass.

Yes, you're practically Steve Van Zandt.

He was actually pretty decent. So was the stage crew. Bruce's entire crew was top notch. The waiting, that was for the asshat who wanted to catch his game before doing his damn job.

I've worked with lots of folks over the years. It's not e-peen sort of wagging, just a professional assessment. Bruce doesn't really seem to have much in the way of professionalism. I've seen kids who've taken to the stage only a year that had better presence of mind about their fans and the position their crew would be put in.

If it's any consolation, the clip earlier this week with Billy Bob Thorton made me giggle a bit, because Jian Gomeshi was so damn uncomfortable--because Jian is an asshat of a whole different pederastic nature.

Dave Mustaine likes to do this too. What I'd like to see? A special twitter site (or similar) that people at a concert go log into that self-coordinates a flash-mob. When the deliberately tardy main act hits the stage, the entire audience is standing backwards.

How long did he play for that night?

Yeah, I saw Bruce on a weeknight in Philadelphia a couple of years ago and he was over an hour late coming on - no opener, even. Thought it was kinda douchey.

Still worth it when he's at the Meadowlands, though.

Ha. That may be the funniest thing I've ever read on Fark.
