Interesting. I was more concerned about the impact of ninjas on the economy, but I can see how you might go there.

When they made "Good Night, and Good Luck" some people thought the actor who played McCarthy was too over the top. McCarthy's role in the movie was composed entirely of old newsreels. Imagine, for a moment, being so ridiculous that people watching you think someone is just a bad actor playing you. That's a whole 'nother level of fail.

I like the way they use "socialist" like it's a derogatory term.

It also amuses me that they think America has a "left", when in fact it has a "right" and a "far right".

Weaver, dad's been force-feeding you the kool-ade at night again. Socialist is as much an insult as capitalist or fascist. It can be used in a derogatory fashion amongst certain groups, but the word itself has no inherent negative connotations.

I caught up with an old high school friend on Facebook. On his profile page, there was a rant against a group called Avon Forward, which he called a "Group of Chicago socialists who think they know what's best for Avon township." When I looked up Avon Forward, they were for a cheaper, more efficient government, reducing property taxes, and improving the schools. Not your normal socialist agenda.

I think the lesson we should take from this is that 'socialist' is a really poor epithet. 'Chicago Socialist' is much, much better.

That's really interesting. You should invite your friend to Fark -- where his political views can be put into the proper context with Jimmy Carter -- the focal point around which Fark world history revolves.

Considering the recent Rasmussen poll said 20% of Americans prefer socialism, Bachus's list seems to come up short. He needs seventy more on his list to match America.

Outside the beltway...means wears pants that fit.

So any ideology that you disagree with can now be turned into an insult?
Having had to put up with assholes hurling liberal at me for a decade now,
I can cheerfully tell you, that game don't play no more.

While I consider you pretty damn smart, the myopia is really tough to take.
For a while I had real hope that you would eventually get it, but that hope
is fading.

Face it, the economic system you believe in has proved to be dysfunctional
and socialism isn't necessarily a bad or good thing, it is like anything else, it
is the implementation that needs to be overseen and done correctly.

And what exactly do you feel that Bernie Sanders has worked for or submitted for legislation that you find objectionable - or is it the label that scares you?

Come on, be specific.
