Somehow I think this is just damage control. Kanye isn't stupid and neither are the people around him. South Park is an entity that can't be farked with. If he doesn't handle this the right way, people are going to start throwing fishsticks at him when he's on stage.

I think he's a very successful troll. I also find it hard to believe he types so poorly. I think that's intentional.

oldebayer [TotalFark] 2009-04-09 11:54:23 PM
This was only marginally better than last week's episode, which sucked big salty chocolate balls.

The financial meltdown episode was, however, a classic.

He's not Carlos Mencia ; he's Ned the Hack. Carlos Mencia is a sock puppet Ned used to talk to in elementary school. Whether this was the cause or the effect of the other children beating the snot out of him is still in question.

Since I not only forgot it was on (again) and was also watching a kickass ep of mythbusters... I too watched it online.

And yes, it was pretty damn funny. When family guy stretches out a joke for an entire ep it sucks ass. Yet somehow southpark can do it :)

Trey Parker does most of the writing, all of the directing, and the majority of the voices. Trey Parker pretty much lies on the couch like Cartmen did over at Jimmy's place and eat chips.

Trey and Matt openly admit this

LOL, I feel like I'm on a playground.

I actually didn't know the anything about the creative dynamics of the two of them except I do know that Parker is usually credited with all the writing whenever I happen to see the credits.

Matt's basically Dave The Lighting Guy, but does voices as well.

I didn't know two Trey Parkers wrote the show.

Who is this Matt guy?

Ok, I'm too tired to play games tonight. Trey Parker is the brains behind the operation. Matt Stone just lays on the couch eating chips and getting high.

It works for them.

It sounds like this may have been the basis for the plot- but I'm gonna take a wild guess and say Matt Stone is probably a bit of a better muse than Cartman could be.

But then again I know nothing about it. Just sayin'.

I was ripping on myself, not you. Anyway, I suppose they could have been joking about themselves but Parker clearly gets most of the writing credits so there isn't much there. Mencia though is a well known plagiarist.

And dude, I was telling you to go easy on yourself about it. It's not a big deal. And yes they were obviously joking about Matt's role in the business of South Park but he did, IMHO, eat a big ol bowl o'shiat about it.

South Park jokes aren't gags. That's the difference. They can actually create a narrative, and re-use old jokes when relevant. Family Guy cannot. The joke in FG has a 10 second life span. South Park jokes can last throughout an episode and even (in the case of continuing episodes) last for weeks. Not to rip on Family Guy, but I think South Park is working at a higher level.

I did an extensive final paper/presentation on Matt and Trey for my Animation final about a year ago. IIRC, while Trey does a lot more of the work directly on the show, Matt has better people skills or something and does a lot more of the PR-ish stuff, handling a lot of the interviews and such. He's also is there to keep Matt on task and tell him when an idea just sucks. A little like Shigeru Miyamoto (the genius behind most of Nintendo's best games, from Donkey Kong to Wii Fit), who needs someone to basically translate his wild, brilliant ideas into something workable.

I think that is illustrated no better than last weeks episode. If that was the first SP episode you had seen, the Terrance and Phillip April Fool's joke would have been meaningless. For those of us who survived the uproar from the Cartman's Dad fiasco, it and the kid's reactions was absolutely hilarious.
