Two Trent Reznor links in two days, oh boy. Just want to say that I saw NIN in Sacramento a couple of months ago and it was the best concert I have ever been to.

//just wanted to say that before the haters get started up

I hadn't listened to NIN for over 10 years before a friend dragged me to the "With Teeth" tour at Jones Beach on Long Island. It was one of the best shows I have ever seen. Completely blew me away and re-ignited my love for Reznor and NIN. Since then I have been all over their new music and the remixes.

//my two cents

This is a pretty interesting interview. He has a lot of insight. I still can't get into his music.

Trent rules. The new stuff, although different in style, is pretty badass.

Year Zero is on permanent play in my car. That and Year Zero remixed

Nemo's Brother 2009-04-09 01:31:35 PM
I like some of his stuff but was kind of turned off of NIN by their hardcore fans. Still, Trent has proven time and time again to be an intelligent man who knows what he is talking about.

EchoMike [TotalFark] 2009-04-09 01:39:51 PM
Forget all that...when's the new video for "Pussygrinder (feat. Sheryl Crow)" coming out and where can I torrent a copy of "Strobe Light?"

I seem to remember Reznor mentioning that Year Zero was his favorite album.

Anyway, I was as happy as a puppy with two peters when the Lights In The Sky tour came to Montana. To say the least, the show was EPIC.

I'm in total agreement. He's been ridiculously insightful about the music industry and as an independent musician myself, I've definitely gleaned some great information from this interview.

/been a big NIN fan since '94
//I think TDS has been subconsciously influential on me
///especially my love for mixing music and noise

Ball Sack Obama: huhuh... Pennis

Funnier still - the headline misspells her name, which is actually "Peniston"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CeCe_Peniston

Huh huh. "Peniston"

incircles 2009-04-09 02:54:52 PM
He's done an incredible job of staying relevant while releasing music that, while consistently good, is neither world-changing nor paradigm-shifting. That's hard to do.

Trent Reznor is Weird Al's emo band.

I don't listen to NIN, don't own any albums. I respect the heck out of him and think he is responsible for the heaviest sounds to ever come out of a speaker.

That was a fantastic interview. I wish charlie rose sit downs were more normal. Especially with people with a point of view.

Really ,really interesting interview. Thanks, Mr. submitter!

I don't listen to Nine Inch Nails everyday, but I saw their show in Montreal this winter and it was really, really impressive.

Nine Inch Nails to me is the greatest single entity in the music business. Their transformation has been immaculate and the innovating sounds continue to thrill. This was a great interview and he showed great insight into the arcane methods of profit for music industries. His comments about Year Zero becoming a serial show well... i jizzed in my pants.

The Slip and Ghosts are great, better than a lot of the stuff inbetween them and, say, Downward Spiral.

Depends what you're in the mood for. With Teeth and Year Zero are great for dancing or singing along because of the simple/poppy song structures. The Slip, not so much.

Bingo. A hypocrite and a tool. All that fight the power talk is weapons grade balonium, also known as "marketing". He got his start and built up his fan base and fame with the support of a record label, now that he's set up his own label, he's selling prepackaged rebellion to the wold, one copy at a time.

Now OTOH, he is a very skilled musician, arranger, producer and engineer and what's more, he seems to be earning even in this age of thievery. For that I respect him.

mahavishnunj: just finished. im poor as f*ck but that interview made me want to buy every nin record i dont have from his site.

See? Good at marketing.

You know that he gave his last two albums away for free, right?

He walks the walk. Yes, the act is going to make money. Going on tour is unfortunately something that costs money and there's also that predicament of getting band members and staff to drop everything and tour with you for free.

You work for free, right?

I don't recall him going on tour for free.
