I've had at least 5, maybe 6 vacations that companies have paid for out of the goodness of their own heart.

I've taken another 2 that I've no idea how they were paid for. The tickets just showed up.

You might find yourself yourself in another part of the world. You might find that you didn't pay for the trip. You may ask yourself. "Well, how did I get here?"

Those usually require attending a time share sales presentation.

Nagin's really great for this city. He brings a chuckle to us every so often. I mean, people are STILL making "Chocolate City" jokes! That was like 4 years ago! A joke with that sort of staying power is impressive.

So, thanks, C. Ray. You make our city fun to laugh at. With. I forget which.

Ray Nagin single handedly caused all of New Orleans Katrina problems with his corrupt, inept, racist, non leadership and should have been executed, dressed out and nailed to a barn door.

The IRS may be interested in the "income" amount that was gifted to this good man of the people. Then again, jerks like Nagin think that tax laws are for others, not them.

He's a democrat. He's only interested in raising taxes, not paying them.

You're absolutely correct. Those of us who were here for the Katrina fallout, not bussed from Texas, and who emphatically did NOT vote for him deserve every steaming heap that he foists on us.

I know that this is a New Orleans thread, but try not to generalize so much. The politics of race received an unwelcome spotlight in Nagin's re-election. The rest of us...the ones who were making sense and beauty of a city so repeatedly raped and pillaged, well, the rest of us were just shaking our heads when the results came back. I assure you that (most of) the people who are the reason NOLA continues to hang on did not vote for Ray Nagin (the second time). Because it is virtually impossible to marry these two statements: "I have a deep passion for the unique city of New Orleans, and wish to see her thrive in a new direction" and, "I voted for Ray Nagin in '06.

Jeff73: I propose that New Orleans, Detroit and Chicago secede and form a new nation: Corruptania.

Interesting that you mention this.

First of all, let me say that I have some amount of solidarity with Detroit: we NOLA Farkers, I am certain, have learned what it's like to be shiat on by the rest of the site for various qualities of the place where we live, so I certainly empathize with the Detroit Farkers in this way. However, that said, every time some new shiat in city government is going down, or some component of state or federal government tries to pull a fast one on us, or the T-P engages in race-baiting (in any direction), or something similar, I am increasingly finding myself thinking, "Well, at least I ain't in Detroit..."
