Doesn't letting the public know the current President's code-name defeat the purpose of having a code-name?

xenophon10k: Doesn't letting the public know the current President's code-name defeat the purpose of having a code-name?

You can't decrypt their radio communications in time for them to be worth anything.

A completely uncharacteristic "good question/valid answer" for Fark. Good jorb folks.

That's assuming that is the only way someone could overhear their communications - and if it were, again, there'd be no point to having the code-name...other than the fact that they're usually pretty cool.

Tradition is held in very high regard by military types.

Not only that, it's literally the same link again. Unless nobody has informed Time that Obama is no longer "President-Elect".

You are assuming the code name has any real value even if the enemy knew it. Its simply tradition and nothing more.

I always think of this scene from The West Wing when I hear about Secret Service code names.

C.J.: What's your secret service code name?
Sam: They just changed it.
C.J.: I know. What's yours?
Sam: Princeton.
C.J.: Mine's "Flamingo".
Sam: That's nice.
C.J.: No, it's not nice.
Sam: Flamingo's a nice-looking bird.
C.J.: A flamingo is a ridiculous-looking bird.
Sam: You're not ridiculous-looking.
C.J.: I know I'm not ridiculous-looking.
Sam: Any way for me to get out of this conversation?

That entire conversation took three seconds and they were walking quickly down a hall while having it.
