Shoot, Focus on the Family is a not-so-secret conspiracy to have the government control all religions.

Newt! Watch out! Behind you, it's a GAY LADY! You could be forced into the conspiracy!

What's that?

It's your sister, Candace Gingrich, prominent LGBTQ activist and lobbyist?

Funny, I guess the mere presence of an LGBTQ person does not automagically influence people to destroy all religious influence in public life after all.

It's funny how Newt can go from trying to sound "smart", like he's got real ideas and is reasonable, straight into some of the stupidest wharrgarbl coming from the right today.

Huckabee does the same thing. He's quite reasonable until you get him on a religious topic.

I find myself listening to Huckabee and saying, "Well, that sounds somewhat reasonable, logically thought-out, and WAIT, what the f*ck did he just say?" He just kinda sneaks the crazy in.

"Well, stable oil prices benefit not only industry here at home, but across the globe, and only through extending dialog across the whole Middle Eastern region can we avoid the kind of kneejerk fluctuations that come with regional volatility. And that's why we should nuke Tehran, Praise Jesus."

Am surprised that Kos failed to jump on the first line of that quote (as found elsewhere):

"I think their goal is to have a very secular America in which government dominates everything," he said. "Why wouldn't you put an anti-religious, left-wing zealot on a faith-based group? It's a perfect pattern for this administration."

Way to leap over that chasm, Gingrich. Secular? Well, by God, that MUST mean that they want the government to control everything.

Gingrich, you irritate me. Not because of what you just said...I'm past being angry at that stuff...but because you consistently make me believe that you are a studied, even-keeled person who may have a chance at de-whaaargarbling the GOP and returning it to a respectable adversary.

And then you say shiat like this.

As a member of the centuries old Jewsh cabal destined to control the banks, media and world governments, let me give you some advice.

Once they know about your plans there's not uch you can do but to laugh at their ignorant comments and theories and then decide whether to hold next month's media domination committee meeting at Steven Sppielberg's house or Jeff Zucker's.

On another note, I be willing to be a liason between out groups for a strategic alliance. I won't lie. There wll be some resistance from the more conservative and Orthodox members, but we are practical people. I'm sure we can help each other towards our goals.

Speaking as a long standing, card carrying, liberal, (in good standing) I am outraged that I was not invited to these undermining of religion and creation of a secular government meetings where this planning has been taking place.

In fact, I am so upset, I am planning to call Newt Gingrich and offer my services as an undercover agent who will diligently report back to him everything that is discussed at the liberal undermining of the rich so we can give all of their money to the poor to make them dependent and enslave them while buying their votes nightly meetings.

That ought to send the guy completely over the edge...

heinekenftw: And people are saying this tard might run for president?

I'm personally hoping he'll RUN. I doubt he'll make it through the primaries, but by presenting a saner economic and international policy platform than the other apparent hopefuls right now he should be able to force them to move to the center on those issues.

Every social issue platform I've seen from any of them has been off the scale on crazy, but I can hope that some dark horse will come in to force moderation there as well. For all their wharrgarbl, the Republicans have a surprising tendency to move to the middle when the votes are leaning in that direction. It makes for a more moderate overall "face" for the party in the final election. Frankly, I want the Democrats to have to fight against a meaningful alternative platform to get reelected. Cakewalks lead to perceived mandates, which lead to abuse.

I still think Gingrich should have Steele's job. He's a hell of a strategist when he actually tries to be, and I think he could have managed to wield the power of the office more effectively to reshape the party into something that's capable of winning nationally. He's the sole major national figure amongst the Republicans right now who has recognized the need to rebrand and revamp the party platform instead of going headlong into denial. That's rather sad, because he's still a douchebag opportunist simply looking out for himself, but I think he's currently the best shot the party has right now for sane reconstruction.

Wow, that's scary.

xria: And complete lack of mandates, as per Bush 2000, seem to lead to abuse anyway.

Technically, Bush had a mandate in his first term in office. It just took 9/11 to get him one. In the months immediately following that he had the highest favorability rating in the history of popular opinion polling. That's a mandate.

You can argue that he still did disagreeable things before then, but they certainly weren't so blatant as things came to be afterwards.

I really don't think a man who served his dying wife with divorce papers to marry his long time mistress should be lecturing people on family values. I know plenty of gay couples who love and respect each other more than that.

hungryhungryhorus 2009-04-09 09:30:18 AM
So I guess I'm kind of young and naive. In the 90's I wasn't paying attention to politics because I was to busy being in Jr. High and listening to No Diggity (no doubt!).

Yesterday, I knew that Newt Gingrich was a Republican politician of some sort and apparently he used to be a big deal. Then I read an article someone wrote about him stating that a return to conservative ideals might require the formation of an new political party.

That got me pretty excited. I'm all for traditional Republican ideals (small government, low taxes, personal liberty, etc.). I'd be very much in favor of a political party that could guarantee low taxes, fiscal responsibility, and social liberties.

Then I read this.

Just how long has the Republican party been like this, with all the religious xenophobia, and social oppression? I know the fiscal irresponsibility goes back at least to Reagan, but wow. I didn't really realize the social oppression aspect of Republican politics was so ingrained that even the politicians who want to reform the party and bring it back to its "roots" want to carry that back with them.

And why, for several decades, did everyone vote for the political party that represented irresponsible government spending/growth and social oppression?

/going to have to ask my parents wtf happened
