"You know, before I answer any more questions there's something I wanted to say. Having received all your letters over the years, and I've spoken to many of you, and some of you have traveled... y'know... hundreds of miles to be here, I'd just like to say... GET A LIFE, will you people? I mean, for crying out loud, it's just a TV show! I mean, look at you, look at the way you're dressed! You've turned an enjoyable little job, that I did as a lark for a few years, into a COLOSSAL WASTE OF TIME!

I mean, how old are you people? What have you done with yourselves?

You, you must be almost 30... have you ever kissed a girl?

I didn't think so! There's a whole world out there! When I was your age, I didn't watch television! I LIVED! So... move out of your parent's basements! And get your own apartments and GROW THE HELL UP! I mean, it's just a TV show dammit, IT'S JUST A TV SHOW!"

"Are- are you saying then that we should pay more attention to the movies?"

"NO!!! THAT'S NOT WHAT I'M SAYING AT ALL!!! HEY, YOU GUYS ARE... THE LAMEST BUNCH... I'VE EVER SEEN... I can't believe these people... I mean, I really can't understand what's....

.........
......
...

Of course, that speech was a "re-creation" of the "Evil Captain Kirk" from um... Episode, um... THIRTY-SEVEN... uhh... called... "The Enemy Within."

Yuh, Yuh, so thank you... and, and... Live Long and Prosper...

So everybody... set your phasers on stun, cause... THIS CONVENTION'S AHEAD WARP FACTOR NINE, Y'KNOW? RIGHT! ALL RIGHT! WARP FACTOR NINE!"

I hate that comercial soooo much. It's like flames.. flames on the side of my face..

Anyway, I am surprised by the lack of haters in this thread. I thought everyone hated the whole idea of this movie and were convinced it would suck.

Cool for them. Nimoy seems like a cool guy.

I'm not dying to see the new movie but pleasantly anticipating it.

jayhawk88 2009-04-07 11:28:47 AM
What a genius marketing move. There's no way anyone comes out of that screening with a negative attitude about the movie if they're part of this stunt, the atmosphere there must have been electric with all the excitement. You instantly generate more positive pre-movie buzz than all the Hollywood dollars in the world could give you. Say what you want to about Abrams, but the man knows his fans.

Don't worry. They'll show up sooner or later with claims of their childhood being raped.

I'm looking forward to the movie. Now what was done to Deadpool in the Wolvering movie pisses me off and will keep me away from the theaters for that one, but Star Trek looks promising and enjoyable enough.

Surely some day, Leonard Nimoy will come back to Texas to secretly screen a highly-anticipated new movie, and will also sit in the audience for the entire screening.

My sympathies. You totally have them.

The trailers haven't been terrible, I don't know that I'm really excited about it, per se, but I'm hopeful that it will be a decent reboot.

And if there is one franchise that deserves a reboot, out of all the other reboots out there, and a decent one at that, it's Star Trek.

/I'd rather see new stories about new characters in the ST Universe, specifically post-Dominion War, but will take what I can get

Tremendously savvy marketing.

Get a room full of people who are dedicated fans. Warm them up with a surprise appearance, and then let them know who super specially awesome they are by giving them the world premier.

Stunningly the movie got good reviews, huh? (Actually, they must have a pretty good feeling about the quality of the film if they're willing to chance this. So hey, maybe it's actually good!)

As a bonus, zero piracy from the screening as no ones brining a camcorder to the screening of a movie that's been out 20 years.

/Not meant to sound snarky. Smart move by the movie folks, everyone wins

How often does Wrath of Khan play in Austin? Seems I remember seeing a movie (Free Enterprise?) where the characters go to a screening occasionally, and I think I've heard that happens once in a while...

Leonard Nimoy does show up in the most interesting places. He provided the voice-over work for the Boston Museum of Science's IMAX theater equipment test before each show. Apparently, his father ran a barber shop in Cambridge.

There are few things more surreal than hearing alternating speakers drone, "Who put the bomp in the bomp shebomp bomp? who put the ram in the ram a lamb a ding dong?"
