"KISS has never followed the rules--we have always broken them."

Oh rock on you big, bad corporate rebels.

I'm happy for the tour. It's a fun show to see.

Cyberluddite [TotalFark] 2009-04-06 05:50:08 PM
I guess their touring schedule will depend on when various states hold their annual state fair.

Gwendolyn [TotalFark] 2009-04-06 05:50:53 PM
I'm sorry what is stupid about allowing your fans to have a say in where you play?

I mean I'm not a KISS fan but it doens't seem like a bad idea.

/that Gene Simmons sex tape still haunts my nightmares.
//shudder

dna_level_c [TotalFark] 2009-04-06 05:51:29 PM
So this is what Gene is doing while not shilling for Cherry Dr Pepper?

AdolfOliverPanties [TotalFark] 2009-04-06 05:57:51 PM
I'd wager that the cities that get the most votes also have a high number of 40+ year old high school dropouts.

Combustion 2009-04-06 05:59:59 PM
Oh yeah? Well why don't we play some Styx and then some Detroit Rock City right afterward and you can tell me how they stack up!

/you guys all must be Dennis DeYoung's alts!

Dr Dreidel 2009-04-06 06:02:33 PM
Man, KISS is really selling out. Such a gimmicky move. I think they're out of ideas and are all about flash over substance now.

I agree. I'm going to mobilize the forces in Nunavut and the Yukon to get their asses up to the Arctic circle.

If The White Stripes can do it, so can KISS.

johnny_vegas [TotalFark] 2009-04-06 06:04:37 PM
there is a "subby's mom" joke here somewhere

deevo 2009-04-06 06:07:34 PM
Anamanaguchi scheduled their tour based on the top 10 cities to download their album. Nice try, KISS.

/there is literally no person in America I hate more than Gene Simmons
//not too late for an "I want them to play very, very far away" joke

So lets pool our efforts and send them somewhere "interesting".

....and Metallica

On 3 September 1995, the Molson Brewing Company arranged for several popular rock bands to give a concert in Tuktoyaktuk as a publicity stunt promoting their new ice-brewed beer. During the months leading up to concert, radio stations across North America ran contests in which they gave away free tickets.

...and Didn't KISS have like 23 farewell tours so far?

jj325 [TotalFark] 2009-04-06 06:29:14 PM
I'm not a Kiss fan but this seems like a cool idea to someone in Iowa who doesn't get a chance to see their favorite bands very often

WORST SHOW I EVER SAW!
Kiss - no makeup
Great White - pre fire sale
Trixter

While trying to urinate while on acid, a member of the "army" in full Gene Simmons makeup, platforms etc pulled up in the urinal next to mine. I looked at him, best I could, tucked it in and walked away.

Dr Dreidel: Man, KISS is really selling out. Such a gimmicky move. I think they're out of ideas and are all about flash over substance now.

I know. I miss the glory days when they were still playing by-the-numbers power chord rock while carrying guitars shaped like axes, wearing make-up, and breathing fire. Sell outs.

I just had a debate about Kiss with Ace Frehley's Ghost (RIP ACE!!!) in a Metallica thread, and we both agreed... Kiss were always sell-outs. Gene and Paul got into it to get laid, Ace and Peter to get stoned. And especially since Gene took over things, Kiss have been the biggest corporate whores you can imagine, second only to Disney pop creations (IMO).

But I don't mind this idea. For those who want to see half of Kiss and a couple of guys they slapped the original make-up on, it lets those fans have the illusion of participating in planning the tour, and Kiss won't show up to half packed places. It's a win for everyone.

Now?

bigbabysurfer 2009-04-06 06:54:35 PM
I can't believe there are people actually giving Kiss shiat for doing this - SELLOUTS?

Where have you people BEEN? Kiss have ALWAYS been like this! They have a Kiss Koffin for sale, for christ's sake!

I'm not a Kiss fan at all, but at least with Kiss, you know what you're getting!

I saw Kiss back in '84-'85; no makeup, don't remember the album (and don't care)...meh.

BUT - I saw them in '96 for the "reunion" tour (all original members), and it was one of the BEST rocks shows I've ever seen!

Can we vote for them to play Kandahar, then Mogadishu?

Damn, you're right.

I commend you, sir. You have put me in my place, and opened my eyes to that which is right in front of my face.

But what about bands with five members? Is that fifth member in it to get laid and stoned?

I think the 5th guy is in it because music is all he knows, which is apparently why he can't make it to practice on time.

Unfortunately this is only the US and Canadian tour. I am thinking Teec Nos Pas, AZ needs some love though.

My vote goes for the bottom of the Marianas Trench.

jaundice_joplin 2009-04-06 11:37:37 PM
My vote would of been them to play on gingivitis, but they did that last year.
That was the same time jonas brothers, rihanna, hannah montana, the beach boys and Queen. (Ill forgive Queen do to the fact that freddy murcury is dead.) all had tooth brushes that play songs!
yes we get it gean you love the biz! Ass hat.

Or deep in Antarctica. This could be our chance to finally get rid of these dopes!

Combustion: Well why don't we play some Styx and then some Detroit Rock City right afterward and you can tell me how they stack up!

They would both suck horribly and it would be impossible to decide which was worse.

/due to them both being god-awful and all

One of my favorite conversations that happened in my whole lifetime involving music was with a guy I worked with that was a bartender.

Him: "Man, I hate Metallica."
Me: "Why?"
Him: "Sold out man. They're so corporate it's sick."
Me: "Yea I like them still but I can kind of see your point. Who do you like?"
Him: "KISS."

Let's just say I never ever again respected this guy's musical opinion on anything.

kingflower 2009-04-07 06:44:37 AM
Is Ace still dead or will he be joining KISS on the most recent farewell tour?

Zombie Eater 2009-04-07 11:55:29 AM
Oh, it's KISS. Nothing to see here.

Saracuda 2009-04-07 12:38:17 PM
Cool idea. I'm not into KISS, but I'd vote like crazy if my favorite bands were doing this.

NorCalLos 2009-04-07 12:48:39 PM
This is a cute little stunt, but what isn't mentioned is that this is basically what ALL bands do. They track sales by geographic area and use that information to determine where they will play on their tour. If I were a KISS fan I'd be even more insulted than I had been prior to this stunt.

redstarr01 2009-04-07 02:19:28 PM
I voted and I'm stoked. I'm totally whoring out the link every opportunity I get. If you don't give a shiat if they come to your town, but have a second to waste, I'd appreciate a vote for my hometown, Fort Smith, Arkansas.

Not only do I really want to see KISS play here, but our economy could really use the boost. A big concert like KISS could make a lot of money for local hotels, restaurants, etc.

I was going to vote for you, but they asked for zip code and email address. I bet there's something in the fine print that says they won't count votes for places outside of your region.

Thanks so much for trying. You may be right about not counting outside votes. Maybe they're doing that to try and keep anyone from making a massive flood of votes for someplace crazy.

Though this has nothing to do with Kiss or this article whatsoever, I gotta say it...

J Geils Band!!! Fillmore Theater, Detroit April 24th and 25th, House Of Blues, Boston April 28th.

Guess this is a good way for those idiots to avoid the inevitable news blurbs about cancelling shows for lack of interest.
