(Rolling Stone) Cool Listen to Green Day's first single off of upcoming "21st Century Breakdown." It's only 30 seconds, but the actual song would be that same clip repeated 4 times anyways   (rollingstone.com) divider line 28

Did you really mean to equate Green Day with real punk bands, Smitty?

When Dookie was released I was working at a diner and one of the bakers (it had a bakery too) was a guy in a punk band, the hours were awesome for him or something...ANYWAY the guy used to get so freaking pissed off when anyone called Green Day punk. It was hilarious. I used to do it sometimes just to watch him go off.

Oh, looky! Somebody waiting for somebody else to put "Green Day" and "punk" in the same sentence, so they have an excuse to spout how much music cred they have by having an album by a 'real punk band'!

I've been a huge Green Day fan for years, but something about the clips from this album don't seem right.
I have a feeling like it could really suck.

Green Day sucked from day one. Go listen to the Descendents, for chrissakes.

What do you think is the funniest part in High Fidelity?

Probably the insinuation that anyone could find Green Day and Stiff Little Fingers similar in any way.

/TRU PUNX!

Getting upset about what is punk and what is not... it's like getting upset that someone called your Skipper a Barbie.

Green Day and anything related to them should have a stupid tag, Subby.

Love 'em. Bad Religion, too.
Still like Green Day, even if I don't consider them the same genre

I'm not a Green Day hater in general, I enjoyed the hell out of Dookie back in the day and thought it was refreshing to hear them trying some new ideas with their last record, even though I would never put it in to listen to. But I cant help but get the feeling that they may be trying a little too hard with this new one. Something about how they have different sections to divide up the album really bugs me, and the track titles, the album artwork, the fact that its dealing with concepts better punk bands have been exploring for 8 years, and the amount of time they put into the entire thing feels like its setting up for a big letdown.

Its hard to really fault a band for being too ambitious though. My problem is I just don't know if a band like Green Day has some sort of punk-rock "classic" in them. Plus, if I'm looking for an album that captures the zeitgeist of living in the Bush America, I've already got "The Empire Strikes First".

The opening drums sound exactly like the drums to 1,000,000 by Nine Inch Nails

I'm not a huge fan but I'll give it a listen through when it comes out. Like it or not, Green Day is an iconic kind of band, and is likely to have at least 30-60 secs of truly memorable music.

Think about any favorite bands you may have and the single from their albums. Was the released single the best song on the album? Usually the answer is a no. I know I'll find something I'll enjoy even if it's just one song among the songs that will never be played on the radio.

/I could also be dead wrong

That sounds about right for a 45 minute Green Day album.

Watching Sid and Nancy for the first time, and getting a kick out of this Holyer then punk nonsense....

If the sex pistols were punk then green day is punk... Sex pistols are talentless and they just out right sucked.... There isnt even that huge a difference between the old green day and the ramones.... Punk is just 50's rock played faster.... This whole whats punk and whats not punk is lame....

Am i not punk cause I dont were my punk uniform, leather jacket, safty pin patchs and pins... chains, etc etc... LAME, Green Day is more punk for doing WHAT THEY WANT TO DO!!! NOT WHAT THE PuNK ELITISTS ( U FACISTS) SAY THEY SHOULD DO!!!!!

BTW if u like Green Day check Out my band, http://www.myspace.com/thesimplisticks

For the greater part, punk's always been about acts and attitudes, not appearances and sounds.
