Bah, the sanctuary trained the dog and is using this as a publicity stunt.

Snopes should have known better than to take the word of someone who stands to gain by it being true.

Since it was snopes and "awww" worthy, I crafted an email and left out all pastel angels along with need to forward it for fear of dire consequences and then forwarded to a brazillion people in my addie book thus gauranteeing my entry into heaven, happyness for all time, and a brand new wife.

Thanks Fark!

I don't know where you got "ugly-ass" from. I personally like greyhounds, if they weren't such a pain in the ass to care for I would have one.

My cousin has a retired Grade-A greyhound. I remember the one time she got lose in Rochester, NY. My cousin spent about an hour running around trying to find her.

Haha. I've always wanted to be able to say that.

Greyhounds are filled with tremendous amounts of win. Adopt rescued racers, folks. They're awesome.

We were at a Meet n Greet today. I can't think of another breed where you can have a dozen unrelated dogs quietly standing around, peaceful in close proximity for an afternoon.

I'd think she'd be more likely to eat paperwork and infiltrate every baptismal font within a five-mile radius... but look at how they lucked out!

Yep. They're really terrific that way. And you should see them on play dates and adoption reunions! All the dogs are so happy to see each other. Love that pack.

And few dogs look as cool walking together as a herd of greyhounds.

I had a friend that adopted a retired grey(retired at 2 years old). He took her to the vet for an injury and because he thought she had some form of retardation. The dog walked into the glass patio door and broke a couple of teeth. The vet said there was nothing wrong with her, the dog had just never seen glass before.

mine is an adopted racer. second dog like that i have had, and will continue with, so sold on them. gorgeous dogs! couch potatoes like nothing i have ever seen, of course...;)

This is true. From what I've been told, most racing greyhounds have never seen glass, sliding doors, or stairs. They also tend to be crate trained, not house trained (easy to switch between the two though).

All true. Crate training comes in really handy. House training was easy enough to teach. He picked up stairs pretty quickly, but spent the entire first night in our house barking at the full length mirror. He'd never spent a night not surrounded by a hundred other dogs.

Robbie walked right into the glass doors in our building the first time. Took a month to figure out stairs. But housetraining wasn't a problem.

Funnily enough, so did my parents' mastiffs, who were born and raised in a normal home. Maggie spent most of her puppyhood running straight into the sliding glass doors and falling over, and Starr's gone through two or three different sliding screen doors (we figured out she couldn't see it, so now there's visible guards on the screens).

/but then again, mastiffs are not the smartest dogs

eggrolls: Am I taking away the wrong message because I want to take a tire iron to the scumbags who abused and abandoned this wonderful dog in the first place?

Not at all.

We 'liberated' an abused dog once from some old lady who used to beat him with a broom and keep him locked up in a tiny cage.

How do I know the broom part? I was cleaning the house and picked up the broom in front of him. He went wide eyed with shock and then dashed into a corner and curled up into a whimpering ball. Took me about ten minutes to calm him down.

I've only wished real harm on someone just a few times in my life, but that was definitely one of them. I'd have loved to track that old biatch down and beat her freaking brains out with that broomstick.

GettingSassy 2009-04-05 09:24:29 PM
Yeah, you have to put decals on your glass doors at about grey head height, or they just walk straight into it. Racers were never taught about stairs, glass doors, slippery tile floors, and sadly enough, affection.

But they catch on quickly enough. Then some of them would like to take the place of your spleen, if they can get close enough.

Loves to take care of other animals, especially kittens. She also sees to it that at least one disabled child (my niece) is taken care of - nobody mess with her or U R in trouble.

She also did the painting in the background. She is very talented.

greyhounds are great. they should be called greathounds.
