A case in point is that of Stephane Leonard Belanger, an Ottawa teacher in the Conseil scolaire de district catholique du Centre-Est de l'Ontario, who came before the discipline committee on March 24, 2004, on allegations of a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student. He gave her his home and cellphone numbers and the two exchanged e-mails ... In late January 2002, he took her to his apartment and they had sex. When she returned home, she told her mother what had happened and her mother took her to the hospital."

Belanger's licence was revoked after the hearing. He was also charged with sexual exploitation under the Criminal Code, but those charges were dismissed after a lengthy trial in 2003.

Wait, let me get this straight. As evidence of a typical man-on-girl child rapists they point at a guy who was not only found not guilty, but had the charges dismissed (which I presume means it didn't even go to the jury). For all we know that was a classic case of a girl deciding to make up abuse stories against a teacher for attention, destroying his life in the process. Can someone tell me how including him in this story after the charges have been thrown out is not outrageous defamation of this teacher, or at the very least stunningly unprofessional of the journalist?
