What was Page playing? A FEnder 12 or a bass VI? Couldn't quite make it out.

It's still better than the last time I saw him. When he played "Whole Lotta Love" with Leona Lewis I thought he was Mr. Miyagi for a second.

Nice clip, but only 335 views? That seems low. It about matches the "clicked on" count. Is this a FARKer's only YouTube?

Jimmy isn't looking too bad. He put on some pounds but he seemed to have it together. Good to see.

I see young Tal (new window)is going for the Hippie Chick look.

yeah that was way cool

but the mix sucked balls sounds like an amateur tried to use a compressor across the stereo bus and totally farked it

but yeah yeah that was way cool to see Jimmy smile and Beck get what he deserved for so long

- Jimmy should let his hair down he did look like GW

It's good to see Nigel Tufnel playing again. Dude has lost none of his chops!

Seriously, Beck has now been inducted twice into the HOF and yet, Steve Howe (who blows both Beck and Page away on his bad days) isn't in once. Just shows how completely irrelevent that whole enterprise is. And don't even get me started on RunDouchebagC...

Fender Electric 12, indeed. I read that for Beck's segment that Page was playing bass; I think this belies that idea...

I wonder if they ever built one of those with the jag tremolo.

Jeff Beck certainly has recognizable tone, but I just don't think he has the catalog to be worthy of the hall of fame. And why is he dressed like a pirate in diapers?

Jimmy Page looks good. I am surprised he made it this long. Some of those live Led Zeppelin vids on youtube he looks near death.

Dear Jerk 2009-04-05 08:23:14 PM
Beck's quite the perfectionist. If he has seen this video, I'll bet he's unhappy with the sound quality.

Jeff Beck's an overrated hack. And that was the longest 5:15 of my life.

worthy of a totally insignificant music 'institution'?

Dear Jerk: Beck's quite the perfectionist.

no hes not, hes usually sloppy as hell live even though he plays nice on records.

Hugh Jacknit: Jeff Beck's an overrated hack.

i wouldnt say 'hack' but hes more overrated than even EVH maybe. if you heard a no-name play the EXACT same shiat as all becks live stuff on youtube right now, everyone would be talking about how terrible he is.

chickyraptor 2009-04-05 09:58:45 PM
The last half of the tune's supposed to have the drum mics kicked over and you hear nothing but cymbals.

god you guys are high. and you don't know what you're talking about.

so you're 1 for 2, not bad.

noheadphones: god you guys are high. and you don't know what you're talking about.

show me a live clip, audio OR video where hes not either a)sloppy as f*ck or b)playing really untastefully...distastefully(are those words?anyway). and 'nadia' doesnt count, he usually keeps it cool on that. like i said, i love his records but hes never good live. i REALLY love that hes trying to turn people on to mahavishnu orchestra, but if you cant even play the FIRST LICK in eternitys breath why are you playing it? not to mention how bad he falls apart on every live version of scatterbrain ever, which is one of his most popular songs. youd think he would learn to play it.

bush 2009-04-06 07:27:03 AM
Don't know about you, but I'm certainly not enough of an asshat to tell a rock icon how to play one of their own songs.

Unpredictability and variations in playing are what make a live performance a live performance. To complain about that is akin to complaining about a Veyron being too fast. Hello, that's the point.

Derwood 2009-04-06 09:57:37 AM
the Fuse coverage of this ceremony was total ass. They cut to commercial in the middle of people's acceptance speeches, had inane interviews, and the whole show ran long, meaning my DVR cut off mid-Metallica speech and never got the live performance.

going to see JB in 2 weeks, so i'm really getting a kick...

Jeff is the greatest and his peers recognize that too, unlike
Page who stole everything from old blues guys, and looks terrible

People who say that Jeff Beck is overrated and a hack do not have the foggiest idea what they are talking about. Here are some people who disagree with you:

"When Jeff is on, he's probably the best there is."

Jimmy Page Guitar Player, July 1977.

"I think of Jeff as probably being the finest guitar player I've ever seen."

Eric Clapton Guitar Player, July 1985

T.rex 2009-04-06 08:13:04 PM
i never got the intrigue with this song.... but all i know is that Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck were feuding for years, each man claiming he was the one who wrote it.

Oh sorry forgot who I was talking to, the guy who thinks Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page all stink. Here is one from the best guitar player who has ever lived, Mr. John McLaughlin:

"At the Crossroads Festival," McLaughlin says, "Jeff Beck, one of my old cohorts, opened up his set with two tunes from Mahavishnu-it was wonderful. He did 'Resolution' and 'Eternity's Breath,' one after the other, and he really played it too. He's such a great guitar player, and to hear that, it was very moving. We go back, we used to tour a lot in the '70s, and jam every night-two bands on stage, that was some high energy.

So although you say that he does not play Eternity's Breath well, the man who wrote it disagrees with you. As I said before you don't have a clue what you are talking about.

actually you have no idea what youre talking about. JM always talks this way about everyone, no matter how bad they suck. hes just a nice guy like that. ive seen the crossroads JB footage and his versions of those tunes are pathetic, and i know JM knew that but was just being nice because an acquaintance of his was playing some of his songs. they probably needed to fill out the set because jeff beck has wrote pretty much nothing himself, ever.

i actually said i thought beck was good on record, just not good live. jimmy page was an ok player but outstanding writer(yeah, he stole everything from blues guys, whaambulance....), but clapton was just at the right place at the right time. he was mediocre in the 60s and never got one bit better, if anything-worse. beck at least got better unlike those dudes on guitar, but he never wrote anything and cant play good live.

jhva3 2009-04-07 09:34:09 PM
So whenever someone disagrees with you, they are either lying or their opinion doesn't matter? Could you be more childish?

I got you a direct quote from John McLaughlin, one of the few guitarists on earth whose opinion you might consider more important than your own. He went out of his way to say that Jeff Beck played his songs well. He is talking about the same song, and the exact same performance that you are.

Rather than accept reality, that you don't know what you are talking about, you are conveniently able to read his mind and tell that he is lying. Because youtube doesn't have any videos of John McLaughlin saying this while attached to a polygraph machine, I am assuming that I am going to be unable to convince you. Even if they did, you'd probably say something about how you know that John McLaughlin learned how to control his brain-waves while studying guitar in India. I hope you enjoy living in your fantasy land where you are always right.

mahavishnunj 2009-04-07 09:58:18 PM
jhva3: Rather than accept reality

the REALITY is-that performance of those songs SUCKS BALLS! EVERY performance of those songs sucks balls. i dont give a shiat if jesus christ himself said it was good. it f*cking sucks. i told you in no uncertain terms-JM is nice to EVERYONE. if you cant tell why becks versions of those songs suck then thats fine. im glad you can enjoy that. the rest of us will try to make music that isnt lame.

mahavishnunj 2009-04-07 10:03:48 PM
jhva3: Even if they did, you'd probably say something about how you know that John McLaughlin learned how to control his brain-waves while studying guitar in India.

he never actually studied guitar in india btw(at least back then), he studied indian music in new york. i guess i just dont know what im talking about though...
