As a cyclist, I can say that anybody who rides a bike and doesn't understand that f=ma is a dumbass. They make the traffic lights in pretty colors for a reason.

Well we're bicycling here in Allentown,
And watching out for these policemen clowns,
Out on the streets the cops are killing time,
Reckless driving,
Running down my behind.

When I was in the Marines there was this door that opened out into a narrow corridor in the admin building, all the other doors opened in, the door was decorated with little man shaped "kill" symbols for all the people that got their noses flattened, I came in one day to find a large kill symbol with full bird Colonel emblems on its shoulders, yup a private had blithely swung the door open right as the C.O. was walking past, gave the C.O. a bloody nose and the private a heart attack, the Colonel was cool about it tho, other than ordering a warning circle painted around the doors swing radius and sending down the stencil for the kill symbol he took no action.

I was a member of Triangle Fraternity in college, and this song was always a popular one at parties and other fraternal get-togethers. There was always a resounding response from the crowd at the points in the song where it says "When there's a fight, Triangle wins!!! Triangle Man!"

//College rocked - real world sucks.

why all the cyclist hate.

no really. why? I'm on board with it, but just surprised.

everyone knows the proper roadie etiquette...ride 3' into car lane even when bike lane is there. run all red lights. flip off cars and screech share the road.

RidersOfLohan: why all the cyclist hate.

I only skimmed the comments, but dude - the moran in this story was a moran...

Speaking personally, as someone who rode his bike everywhere for 4-5 years (about 15 years ago), I'm all over supporting rights for bicyclists.

But this particular moran got everything he deserved. Ran a red, the cop had the green; no helmet... stupid.

I've never seen a banning over that, only removed from the thread from noted Fark moderator Adolph Hitler.

Every time I see it I can only dream of a Critical Mass rally and... sorry, I need a moment to myself.

Restil 2009-04-05 02:23:39 AM
Why would he need his lights and siren on? He was almost certainly going UNDER the speed limit (unless he was in a school zone, in which case he was going AT the speed limit), and going through a GREEN light. The cyclist was going through a RED light, which, last time I checked, was against the law... even on a bike. All of the important information appeared in the article prior to the comment about the lights and siren. By that time, there's no reason to mention if the lights and siren were on because it's not relevant to the story. There was no reason, expected or otherwise, to assume the car had its lights and siren on. And if it DID have its lights and siren on, that would make the cyclist seem like that much more of a moron.

I saw a cyclist run a stop sign once while I was trying to make a left turn into the street he was coming from. He didn't see me; in fact he didn't even bother to look for traffic from my direction. Unfortunately, I saw him in more than enough time to stop.

I blasted the horn as soon as he crossed in front of me. He nearly jumped out of his skin and fell off the bike and it kept going across the street. He got up and ran off chasing it. Funniest thing I ever caused.

if Bicycle Boy was wearing a 'I think I'm a pro circuit tour rider' jersey the policeman should have backed up over him as well.

As a cyclist, it's an almost daily ritual to avoid getting hit by someone not paying attention. Just this morning a woman was pulling out of a parking lot and pulled right into the cycle lane without bothering to look and see if there was a bike coming. Luckily, I was able to avoid her, but yeah: Sitting there with a look on her face like she'd seen a ghost.

Having said that, I have to admit I laugh every time I see the picture of the car hitting the mass of cyclists.

I don't get that at all, myself. Some people literally cannot take a ride without being all "geared up". It's ridiculous: These people obviously never participated in any sports in school, so this is their outlet to feel like they are part of a team.

I don't own a single cycling jersey, and if I wear the goddamn shorts, I wear "normal shorts" over them. I hate the geared-up dipsh*ts. The worst part about them is they always have to check out your bike like it's some kind of status symbol: "Oh, he's only riding a Giant...I shall not wave to him".

In my defense, I got it from another bike thread on this site. Also, if it gets removed and I don't get banned, I'll take that as a warning and not post it anymore.

TMBG FTW!!

Yay subby!!

EggSniper 2009-04-05 03:04:43 AM
Let's begin by saying I hate the police. Almost as much as I fear them, I absolutely hate cops. I'd piss on the grave of a cop if I knew I'd get away with it, even if they'd saved my own life. fark 'em. If it's a cop, it deserves to burn, but only after I make them watch their family burn.

That said, the article seems to indicate a dumbass on a bicycle farked up. The cop joined the force just a couple years ago, and when he was my age. How farked up must the world be when a man my age even considers such a thing? I'd sooner skin my mother to make art to sell on the side of the road than join the pigs.

If the article is factual, any and all cop-hate in this thread is misguided. Cops violate the law all the time, and we need to call them out and then douse them in gasoline and burn them and everyone they ever knew, for the crime of having authority. But, if everything is proven true, this guy should get a break.

/Maybe just a singing

FTFA: Police are encouraging anyone who may have witnessed the accident to call the traffic line at 610-437-7705 or crime tip line at 610-439-5911.

Ummm...ok...

I love how the only reason this is newsworthy is because there was a cop involved.

MBK [TotalFark] 2009-04-05 03:24:27 AM
Biker ran a red and got hit by a cop.

Biker is a moron.

And the "Car vs 50 biker" picture is farking disgusting. It was a Critical Mass rally or a bunch of douchebags trying to make a point. It was a legal bike race and the guy in the car was a drunk driver. The driver was lucky the mob didn't kill him on the spot. A few people got killed (maybe just 1 with a few other critical injuries, not 100% sure).

FrankTheYank 2009-04-05 03:34:14 AM
Yeah, I'm sure anyone who read the article knows exactly what happened here. Because [cops/cyclists] never run red lights and never blame other people for their own mistakes, and newspapers always wait until a story is fully baked before running it.

There's a lot of reasons to wear cycling clothes.
First and foremost, aerodynamics, and muscle tension. Normal clothes flapping in the wind hold you back a lot.
Second, if I am riding for more than 10 minutes my junk goes numb unless I'm wearing cycling shorts. I quite frankly don't give a sh*t who thinks I look silly, I'm happy with a fully functioning penis.
Third, if you are going somewhere where you will be interacting with people you're a f*cking asshole to hang around all day in smelly clothes. You wear cycling clothes on the bike, change at your destination, and then everyone doesn't have to smell you.
Fourth, visibility. All those bright colors make you easier to see, and often have reflective strips so you aren't invisible at night.
Fifth, pockets. Easier to carry stuff.

Finally, it takes all of a minute to put the clothes on. It's not like it's some gargantuan burden to wear the proper gear for the task.

Uchiha_Cycliste [TotalFark] 2009-04-05 03:47:48 AM
People who blatantly run lights like this suck. But they represent a small minority of all cyclists. It's really not fair to imagine all cyclists are douches like this. The only reason none of you realize this is because all of us cyclists who do the right thing are invisible to you.
