Toshiro Mifune's Letter Opener [TotalFark] 2009-04-04 05:29:44 PM
And when David Hasselhoff inevitably decides to release a country music album, the world will break away from its orbit in abject horror and hurtle into the sun.

I hope you're all friggin' happy.

It's rarely necessary to apologise for a Youtube link not being a Rickroll.

Germany is sort of late to the party. I can't explain to you how strange it was to walk into a bar in the Czech Republic in 2002 and see around 100 people in Wranglers and cowboy hats line dancing.

I heard an NPR report a while back in which they discussed how country music is freaking HUGE in everywhere (Africa, west Asia, Eastern Europe) except in the country it originated in.

There has a been a lot written about the Germanic fascination with the American "Old West" mythology. One the most popular German writers of all time, Karl May, was famous for his Western novels. Hitler, Einstein, and Hesse all loved May's books growing up.

You have no idea. My Dad is from England and every time I go over to England to stay with my Grandparents. Whenever someone finds out I'm from Texas I get questions such as "Oh, so do you ride to School on Horses then?"

The other day, a customer of mine was listening to some country song called 'Mr.Mom', (I think that's the name). It was so farking bad I wanted to punch the radio.

I was expecting something like that, but instead got some kind of Turkish pop. Is that the newest kind of RickRoll? Have I missed a meme?

And country's been quite popular here for a long time. It's similar enough to other old-people-music 'round here, the cowboy mythos is as popular as ever and there's enough truck drivers around to buy the CDs. This crap is from 1978...

Alien Robot 2009-04-05 09:12:17 PM
alcoda: that's not country music...

But this is. And it's a German band. Representing Germany at Eurovision no less.

However Country is usually the top-selling genre in the US. NPR is not exactly in tune with most of America so it's no surprise they would be clueless on that.
