Well, of course it is... if you compare 5 or so years of Obama's budget with one year of Bush's official budget

I didn't think Bush needed a budget, he just expensed as needed.

And the only difference in Obama's latest budget and Bush's last is that Iraq and Afghanistan are ACTUALLY ON THE BOOKS--not some stupid "emergency funding bill".

============================

Exactly. And we passed those 'emergency funding bills' at least twice a year and each of them were usually 300 billion.

That's a tremendous cost you're keeping out of the 'official' books.

In short, Obama's actually including realistic expected spending for Iraq and Afghanistan wars in the Budget, while Bush did not.

Facts are stupid things. - Ronald Reagan

GAT_00: I like how a $3.1 trillion budget is just fine, but the shiat hits the fan if you go up to $3.6 trillion.

And Bush's budget was anything but 3.1 trillion - in a move that would have even impressed Orwell, he purposely kept Iraq war expenses out of the budget entirely.

In essence, Bush's budget= Obama's..... the real difference is on what they spend their money on... in fact, that's about the only real difference between republicans and democrats today.

Judging by all the "lying chyron" stories lately, looks like Fox is now just throwing anonymous falsehoods about to see what sticks. Couldn't they get one of their newsmodels to just say them instead?

Actual quote from Bush about the Iraq war....

"Well, it's going to cost what it costs".

At least all this spending Obama plans to do is an attempt to fix the shiatstorm Bush created, not for an excursion into a country we had no reason to invade.

Especially when you toss in the fact that Bush's $3.1 trillion budget didn't even include the costs of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, while Obama's $3.6 trillion budge does include them. I guess some people really do prefer being lied to.

It's called "willfull ignorance". They hear facts they don't like and do the "lalala, I can't hear you" thing that children do.

I don't even think they've properly calculated the cost of these "wars" (they're occupations). I'd like to know how much they're spending on our men and women who come back with pieces of themselves gone and severe mental problems.

The war will last 6 months, tops. The Iraqi oil will fund the war and the rebuilding of Iraq.

At least this is what Bushco told us in 2003.

This always makes me laugh. In public health statistics, MSM stands for "Men who have Sex with Men" which, considering the close Fox alliance with the Gay Old Party makes perfect sense. As does their adamant denial of being part of MSM.

I think its 130 billion... if web sources are accurate. I don't see how that was such a big deal.

But I think it could be problematic to spend more in this budget when we may not have the revenue to pay for it.
I think past economic growth had been why congress passed those previous budgets. But will we get economic growth for 2010?? I guess that is the big question... Some say this should be a time to watch expenses. Not increase them, and not be sure how to pay for them. we previously had 54 months of GDP growth. I don't know we will continue to have that....

Bush never put the wars in his budget; Bush did. Add the following amounts, in billions of dollars, to Bush's budgets, for a more accurate comparison. (Figures come from here; it's a PDF file.)

2001/2002: $34
2003: $81
2004: $94
2005: $108
2006: $126
2007: $171
2008: $188
2008/9: $67 (it's a bridge request Bush made to keep things running during the transition; it's supposed to hold out until June)

And there's the math.

3.9 - 3.1 = 0.8 = 4 x (3.1 - 2.9)

No, it doesn't make sense but I like how the math worked out.

Its ok for "your" party to spend but not the other party.

If the opposing party spends 4t then its obviously a waste. But if my party spends 4t its actually saving money and also money well spent.

Did I get that right?...I didn't read the article.

I think we need a new revenue source.....how bout a 100% tax on people who bet against the dollar or the USA in general.

No, no, that won't work. You see, I read this great book called "Atlas Shrugged." It showed me how if you tax the rich too much they won't work and make jobs for the poor. In fact, they might even get together and form their own super-cool-awesome country that no poor people can be a part of. You see, all those rich people LOVE manual labor, and they're just itching to do jobs like taking out the garbage and growing their food and making their own cars, so there's a real danger of that happening.
