Laugh if you want, but it's about time the Canadian Forces established ROE for fowl. There used to be peacocks on the grounds of Royal Roads university in B.C. when it was used as an officer training school, and they could be royal pains in the ass. When my brother-in-law attended there, a cadet was walking across the grounds carrying a golf club when one ran up to him hissing and he swung the club at it, neatly decapitating the creature. He was kicked out of the military by sunset.

We've faced the Hun, the Yanks, the Japs and the Koreans, but I think we've finally run up against an enemy we can't beat.

Those things are nasty. What about their "aggressive psychological operations" and "use of deadly force" against humans?

Perhaps a little harsh, but I can see why they wouldn't want someone like that as an officer. Who attacks a peacock with a golf club? It's not like they could seriously hurt you. Ergo, he was probably just being sadistic.

What the enemy combatants may look like.

Geese are a problem here in northeast Ohio, also. In the parking lot where I work, every spring we get a whole flock taking up residence. They attack cars, people, and everything else they can. And the goose poop is epic- it is nearly impossible to walk from one building to another without stepping in/sliding through a mess of it.

Protected or not, I'd sooner shoot these suckers than have to deal with them.

Pretty funny, if you bother to read the link.

Migratory honkers are declining in population, but there's no need to keep the ones that have become "socialized." Cover their eggs in vegetable oil. They'll sit on them until realizing that they're never going to hatch and move on. Most won't return to nest in an unsuccessful spot more than once, and almost never more than twice. Problem solved.

/if you break the eggs, they'll just re-nest in the same spot

"Aggressive psychological techniques" against geese are ineffective. They're naturally insane, psychotic, sociopathic and violent.

Or grouse, even.

They should just hire Carrie Fisher. She can recognize a fowl stench as soon as she gets there.

I know exactly where they're talking about. The mess is right on the water, and geese do nest right by the patio. I like the part where he compares Navy officers to geese.

Pretty sure those peacocks are still there. The whole lower field is normally covered in their shat.

I got nailed in the junk by a pissed off goose at Darien Lake, walking from the hotel to the park. Wife laughed for an hour, me...not so much.

You can use a laser pointer to distract the geese. They hate it.

For real? Do you shine it in their eyes, or use it as a target, like with a cat?

I had a war with those peacocks! I did a movie shot entirely at Royal Roads and I could not leave any food on my trialer. The white peacock must have ate atleast four of my lunches.....

At HMCS Discovery the lowest on the totem pole (my brother) were sent out to shake the eggs every year. Otherwise, the base would be covered in Goose shiat.

Grouse.

They may look like that. Information on the enemy is still sketchy at this point. They're sneaky bastards.

Actually that was just the first pic of some dead birds I ran across that allowed hotlinking, so I clicked it in. It would have been brown breasted mattress thrashers if they'd been the first pic.

My dog (half lab, half springer) loved chasing critters. Rabbits, squirrels, fish...all good fun. Out on a jaunt one afternoon, he spotted a goose and thought a charge was in order. Much like the day he learned that cats are sharp, he quickly discovered that geese mean business and should not be farked with.
My dog and Sully Sullenburger - something in common.

Shine it at their eyes - (It shouldn't be attached to a rifle even though it's tempting)

When I was very young (I think it was the summer before first grade) my family went to England. For some reason my parents thought it would be a good idea to bring me into the Museum of Torture or whatever it's called, but the scariest moment of the whole trip was when one of the Queen's swans almost attacked me. Mind you, the farker was the same height as me, so it was much scarier back then.

It also had fangs. And knives.

I once stopped at a small public park around Oakville, On I think.

I thought "ooh, look. they've been aerating their lawn."

Ruined a brand-new pair of cross trainers.

Farkin' geese.
