Hope they get a lot more than four gay marriages done.

Congratulations for another court victory to all the GLBTs out in Farkland.

/Cringe at anticipated backlash.
//Voter referendum to ban gay marriage by state constitutional amendment.

Good job Iowa! When will people stop giving a shiat about what two hot lesbians do? Or even the two ugly women that fought for this? Who cares? In my opinion, two gay men marrying is much better than two fat people marrying. Fat people smell. Gay people usually are clean, though I suppose that is a stereotype. Anyway, not allowing two gay people to marry is equivalent to not allowing two people to marry because they are both white. It just doesn't make sense, it is bigoted, and people are pretty farking pathetic if they are against gay marriage. If a religious group is against using their church for it, more power to them. They are bigots, too, but that's their right. But the government?

Gay people have been farking since the beginning of time. Let them be as miserable as straight people--allow them to marry.

phansen 2009-04-04 01:06:16 PM
Subby has never been to Iowa City apparantly also Iowa doesn't have residency laws for marriage so we'll get a little of everyone.

Oh, they will.

I know the Iowa state government has been really, really hurting for money. Those fabulous gay tourism/immigration dollars might help.

When are we as a Nation going to stop catering to people with sick minds, these people need to be cured not given extra "rights"

This can be cured if we put enough medical resources at it, we can stop this epidemic.

You're going to have to tell us what kind is it, so that we don't buy it by mistake and turn gay. Or is this some kind of sinister gay joke?

zetar 2009-04-04 01:10:27 PM
I live in Davenport. Our alderman is gay and he owns a gay bar. My wife and I like hanging out there because the music is good, the people are friendly and the booze is cheap. There are definitely more than 4 gay couples (in the 3rd ward of Davenport, Iowa).

Well, I guess better to have some place in the US to marry. Take advantage of the dollars while you can though - let's just say the marriage tourism thing is not nearly as profitable these days in Toronto now that you can get married all over Canada.

Yeah what we need in Iowa City more gays!!
The majority of the state population does not support this. It is sad our state is in moral decay.

Corvus 2009-04-04 01:10:55 PM
I guess the "liberal activists judges" cry doesn't work so well when it was unanimous in a conservative state's court.

Hey maybe so many judges are saying this invasion of people's rights because it actually is.

You think we should have anti-bigotry camps for these people?

Why should bigots get these special rights?

Forget the tourism. This might actually help bring in gay people into the state to live. I can just see the ads in gay magazines now "Iowa: lower cost of living + you can get married here = California can suck our knob".

From what I hear, Iowa's state constitution amendment process is less retarded than California's, so that shouldn't really be a problem

I wonder when the religious kooks will finally shut up and stop trying to run other peoples lives. How does two rump rangers getting married hurt me or anybody else? What exactly are the jesus freaks hoping to accomplish anyway? I always see this odd statement about "protecting traditional marriage." How exactly is traditional marriage harmed by gays getting married? Its not like I am going run out and divorce my wife the moment some gays get married. What exactly is this mysterious harm to traditional marriage?

That's what I meant by immigration. They've been beating themselves up for years trying to figure out ways to stop the state's best young workers from defecting to other, less Iowan places to live.

I wouldn't call Iowa a conservative state exactly, they swing both ways. Reference: Obama in 08 and Clinton in 96. Iowa is bi-curious.

otterrr 2009-04-04 01:18:07 PM
Props to Iowa. Nice to see their Supreme Court actually has a bit of sense about them and views this as an equal rights issue, rather than listening to the bullshiat "moral" argument.

it'd be hilarious if this was some sort of crass move to get gay people with extra income to spend to actually move to Iowa. Big Judicial-eceonomic-zion conspiracy! or something.

They are not mutually exclusive. There are many 'modern' liberals that fit the classic definition. Just as there are many 'modern' conservatives that still fit the classical definition of conservative. Just because the wingnuts make more noise and get more attention, don't assume the 'classical' species is extinct.

this is real funny. Do you consider yourself a libertarian?

Maybe you should understand the meaning of the word and the word liberal.

Look up liberal democracy (new window)

And look up Economic liberalism (new window)
That one will surprise you.

You might learn something about the word.

It doesn't mean in a classic sense what you think it means.

Old_Fark 2009-04-04 01:20:56 PM
Seems submitter is not too smart. Wouldn't surprise me if there were more gays in Iowa than San Francisco, 'course they're all married already, they just have to divorce their beards and marry their true lovers.

Just How many kids were Murdered by gay people during the aids epidemic, they were asked time and again to practice safe sex and not to donate blood, they screamed at the top of their shrill lungs "we are queer we are here and we are comming for your kids" how MANY dead childre will it take to get the message. This is wrong it spreads disease, it murders children. My sugestion is to treat their mental illnes and give them a normal life not lock them up with a pink triangle.
