(The Raw Story) Interesting Well, if you're going to overturn a conviction due to prosecutorial misconduct, how about one resulting from a bona fide political witch hunt?   (rawstory.com) divider line 24

not sure if siegelman will get any traction from this, but it's pretty clear his conviction was a rove-engineered coup d'état.

Magorn 2009-04-04 11:20:56 AM
His problem is, the federal charges were a no-doubt witch hunt, and we have affidavits from long-time republicans to prove it. But how does he explain the state charges?

Maybe if this is overturned then this might lead to more people coming out and speaking out what happened in the Bush Administration. Especially when it comes to the real influence that Karl Rove had.

Topics like this provide a great intelligence test.

Those that think Karl Rove masterminded a smear on Siegleman are complete morons, devoid of any ability to research and show basic common sense.

"But...but...Karl Rove hired some low level lady to smear him. Sure, there's no evidence, and her story is contradictory and constantly morphed into a childish tabloid, but I believe her because it blames Rove!"

Let the name Georgios Bush Secundus be chiseled from all public surfaces, and let him be held by ignis et aquae excommunicatio.

Please explain your feelings about Scooter Libby.

EZ1923: Please explain your feelings about Scooter Libby.

He was a slimeball that was righly convicted for lying multiple times. He tried to pull the same "it's a conspiracy theory against me" card. Except that mountains of evidence showed there was no conspiracy, he was just a slimeball.

Very similar to Siegleman.

Anyone capable of doing any research can not help but come to the conclusion that there was misconduct by the prosecution.

Far from being devoid of common sense, this conclusion is the only intelligent possibility.

You condemn the witness for the defense. What do you think about the witness for the prosecution?

I thought it had something to do with the extreme politicizing of the U.S. Attorneys, to the point where they were being pressured to go after Democrats and leave Republicans alone.

And yes, I know Clinton fired all the U.S. Attorneys at the start of his FIRST term. It's highly unusual for a two-term president to fire a bunch of U.S. Attorneys in the MIDDLE of his presidency, for the purpose of filling the ranks with hyper-politicized loyalists.

The Bush Administration's perversion of justice. (new window)

I don't know how much Rove has to do with any of this. But no one who has researched the topic can fail to see how twisted the Justice department became under Bush.

Most conservatives were unable (or refused) to see that Lawyergate was not about, if Justice Department lawyers could be fired. It was about why they were fired. They were fired because they wanted to prosecute based on evidence. Bush wanted them to prosecute based on politics.

Boy, the Bush administration was like a long, bad dream. I keep on remembering stuff I'd repressed. Like the U.S. Attorney crap, and the outing of Valerie Plame, and Abu Ghraib.

What has stayed fresh in my mind was an early incident. There was a mine cave-in and Bush turned it into a photo-op, pledging to work for mine safety. Then several months later he turned around and cut funding on mine safety. This pretty much set the stage for 8 years of asshattery.

\Thanks now I remember why I had a legitimate beef with Bush's presidency, rather than being prey to some mythical "Bush derangement syndrome."

Wouldn't the state charges have to be pursued and prosecuted by State Attorney General's office then?

Yet people insist that this is some paranoid attempt to implicate Rove. Forget Rove. The Rove connection is a red herring used by Bush-bots to distract the faithful from the real issues.

I think Karl Rove gets used as a conceptual shorthand for embodying Bush's domestic political shenanigans. However the entire administration during the 2nd term seemed to be on board with playing politics above national welfare. (they shook out the naive moderate Republicans in the first term).
