If the only international law we're worried about our president breaking is a copyright law, then I see it as a nice change.

This is way worse than a BJ, it's International law being broken.

You forgot the implied racism, but it was still well within the bounds of a nice attack.

Sampson Jessep: Nay, as they dare. I will bite my thumb at them; which is a disgrace to them, if they bear it.

Abraham Weinberg: Do you bite your thumb at us, sir?

Sampson Jessep: Son, we live in a world that has thumbs and those thumbs need to be bitten by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lieutenant Weinberg? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Tybalt and curse the Montagues; you have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that Tybalt's death, while tragic, probably saved lives and that my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, bites thumbs. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties you want me biting that thumb, you need me biting that thumb. We use words like honor, code, wherefore. We use them as the backbone of a life trying to bite something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to bite my thumb at a man who bites his thumb under the blanket of the very freedom I provide and then questions the manner in which I bite it. I would rather you just said "thank you," and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest that you pick up a thumb and start biting. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to.

LOL... there's not a mainstream song of the last 40 years that I couldn't acquire in under a half-hour for free. You can love that fact or you can hate it, but denying it is just retarded. Makes you look like you work for the RIAA with that level of cognitive dissonance.

I found an obscure dead canadian musician from 25 years ago that noone in my country heard of in less than 15 mins. Sure... the files were in FLAC, but I got what I was looking for to prove the song existed.

I was thinking about this issue when I heard that President Obama gifted an iPod with pre-loaded music. My conclusion is this:

When iTunes syncs with another computer, it erases the contents installed, not copying those contents from the iPod to the computer. However, if the Queen listens to the music pre-loaded onto the iPod, that's when the violation occurs. The music had to be loaded onto another computer for the files to be copied to the iPod.

In short, the President is in violation of copyright law.

Wolframkerngeschoss [TotalFark] 2009-04-04 12:07:08 PM
Is there anybody left who didn't break copyright law by now? You would have to be living under a stone.

only with iTunes. There are many other media management programmes that wont do something spiteful like erase your mp3 player.

FTFA - But none of us should want a world where even our leaders--much less the rest of us--can't figure out how copyright law operates in their daily lives.

This is the larger concern, but I'm sure this thread will just descend into childish partisan bickering.

Lost Thought 00 2009-04-04 12:19:06 PM
It is only a copyright violation if Obama kept a copy for himself. If he purchased it for the sole purpose of gifting, and did not keep a copy for himself, then it isn't a copyright violation.

/Copyright law made simple. 1 payment = 1 copy

The really, REALLY fun part will be when the RIAA sues someone for sharing music, and they use this event as a defense.

"If it's wrong, then why didn't you go after that well-known scofflaw, President Barack Obama? What? You were afraid? Boo-hoo. Call us back when you file suit against ALL of the people who are breaking the law, not just the poor and non-powerful ones..."

Copyright owners have consistently argued in court that many digital products (even physical "promo" CDs!) are "licensed," not "owned," and therefore you're not entitled to resell them or give them away.

LOL. Good luck with all of that.

NK Dear Leader is awesome, he has the media behind him and can do no wrong. What's not to like. Stories of amazing feats abound. Very well liked in his country. His gov't provides for everyone.

Dictator you say? hmmm I did not think of that. So you are saying Obama is a Dictator too. Well he is making gov't bigger but he hasn't dictated the country yet. He has only dictated the biggest debt load we've ever had.

Lets over-look the IPOD flub, and think about the huge Debt.
