It seems like politics in Alaska has been designed specifically for my lulz.

Prosecutorial misconduct doesn't mean he's innocent - it means he got away with it.

I was going to post "let me be the first to say lulz" but you beat me to it. Good show.

/Keep it up, Alaska

Asa Phelps: Prosecutorial misconduct doesn't mean he's innocent - it means he got away with it.

Doesn't matter for public perception...

I can't decide what I want to have happen.
Alaska run by a series of Ted would leave Palin jobless and free to try to get elected to something nationally.

Upside, that's good for the left because it will drive yet more smart people from the Republican Party. Downside, a Republican Party continually in self-destruction-mode and led by crazy angry people is bad for democracy, moderation and any serious political discourse. Also, do we really want to see someone running for high office again who doesn't believe in evolution?

FIFY. Some other party will come out and become the yang to the Democrats' yin*. Maybe the Libertarians, maybe some other (currently-)no-name third party, or maybe the Whig Party might rise from the ashes of the Republican Party like some sort of freaky garbage phoenix.

/*...or would they be the yin to the Democrats' yang?

I think it's amazing that in the span of 4 years the GOP went from controlling all three branches of government to being a national joke.

It makes me so proud of my country.

We're talking about a state whose current Governor, when officially found to have abused her power and violated state laws, said, "See? Totally vindicated, toldja!"

no, it was piped in- through a series of tubes.

Stay Cool Babylon 2009-04-03 03:37:19 PM
I'm loving this 'vindication' BS all over the tubes (not referring to Fark). Dear assholes: He is living proof that the system can and does work, most of the time. He is NOT a figurehead for some fantasy of a fascist DOJ. The current DOJ felt that it could not ethically defend prior activities and, as such, your guy was released from responsibility. So spare us the 'innocent of a smear campaign' BS. He was the recipient a system of checks that ensures we are ALL protected from runaway prosecution. Perhaps he should mention that while he is wrapping himself in the flag the next time he gets near a podium.

/I wonder whose DOJ originally prosecuted this case?

Yes. One of my staffers sent me this internet.

Now that Ted Stevens has been completely exonerated, the liberal apology line starts to the right ------>

I also think it's only fair that the Feds set up and pay for a fund to help him search for the real culprit.

Corvus 2009-04-03 04:09:37 PM
come on Alaska really is mostly full of people who are either on the run from the law or had to escape the normal states for some other reason. What would you expect?

lawboy87 2009-04-03 04:10:50 PM
From everything I've read, Stevens basically "made" Palin (politically) and helped quide her every step of the way to where she is now. I have little doubt that Stevens has something on Palin she wouldn't like to be made public.

This could get very interesting.

SnakeLee: Wow they're going to have a Democratic Governor in my lifetime

Unless you're 8 or younger, they already have.

In fact, 5/11 of Alaska's governors were Democrats (Egan had non-consecutive terms); five were Republicans, and one of the Republicans won later running in the Alaskan Independence Party.

I like Ted. He's a nice guy. A public servant who spoke to me like he works for me. Great. He's also dirty as hell. All politicians are, thats why they do what they do.

However dirty he may be, he didn't do what he was being prosecuted for and he proclaimed his innocence the entire time. Imagine if Al Cappone actually had paid his taxes. Palin, on the othe other hand, has been found in ethical violation. And she's a twit. Even Alaskan's know this.

I'm sure he would win against her. I would vote for him against her.

It's a good thing Alaska burst upon the national political stage when it did.

It was getting boring, picking on Florida.
