That guy sounds like he deserves a punitive job. The only reason they don't fire him outright is because they know he'll sue them again. What a douchebag.

Just on a side note, did anyone else see the banner add at the top of the page that says " live the lifestyle you've always wanted" and shows two dark skinned lesbians kissing, for IMVU?

wat? now closet cases can live out their fantasies in cyberspace? WTF is imvu?

To be fair, the MBTA should change his shift to 9 pm to 6 am, when he would be more useful.

He's right, it's a shiatty job designed to punish him. And guess what? Budget Cuts! I think he makes too much.

Well, instead of reading the bible, maybe he should pick up a broom. Spruce the place up a little. Add a wet bar. Something constructive.

Speaking of passive construction, it took me three tries to grok this sentence: "And personal belongings on the site appear to have been left recently."

Dude needs to clean the place up and start hosting kick-ass parties, charging a hefty admission fee. Or something, anything. Don't just sit there and read the bible. Jackass. I wish I had a job like that. I'd come up with something to keep me entertained.

Also, I'd kick your ass and fark your mom. Cause I'm all internet tough like that.

Exactly. F*ck him for wasting time and money that could have been used to improve services instead of giving him a meal ticket.

Seriously, if you're enough of an asshole for your bosses to give you a job with no human contact just so you won't be able to sue them anymore... maybe, just maybe, the problem lies with you.

The property sold for $4 million and gets handed over to the developer in June, so it's not like he's going to be doing this forever, or even much longer. 10-12 more weeks of doing nothing there before he gets something else.

$50,000 to sit on his ass and do nothing? From 6am until 2pm?

My point is though, as long as he punches in, they think he's there. He's doing a do nothing job next a phone that cant ring. Unless the station sends someone out of their way to go check on him, no ones going to know.

50 grand/year + benefits. No supervision, no job requirements...nothing but time and a quiet place to work.

Goddam, this guy's been handed the opportunity of a lifetime, and he's wasting it on bible study and biatching.

They probably are checking up on him for that exact reason.

Exactly. The one day he doesn't show up, or punches in & then goes home, is the one thing the MTBA is looking for to fire him without getting sued.

Given this guys nature, one wonders why he isn't suing for making him work in an unsafe and unsanitary environment. Since he's probably Union, he can also argue it's not his job to kill vermin or clean up human waste.

I think he's an asshat, but he does have the above as an option.

Another Government Employee 2009-04-03 10:51:26 AM
Oh, Dear Lord.

MacEnvy is real close to the truth.

We have a situation where both the employee and employer have painted themselves into a stalemate. He MIGHT have a case for retaliation, but that isn't completely clear from the article. But it is very likely why MTA hasn't eliminated the position yet.

The best alternative probably isn't available, and that would be to buy him out and let him retire. All the other options will cost the agency more money.

Lagrange 2009-04-03 10:51:56 AM
A litigious prick with no friends at work is given a job where he can't be a constant distraction and source of irritation?

Shocking.

I think you hit the nail on the head with this. People out there that spent an inordinate amount of time trying to find ways to 'beat' the system, and/or abuse it.

\Hope your husband gets something soon.
