Because it required a substantive answer and not just the recitation of a mantra of hope and change by rote.

Please, don't question The One.

He forgot to blame it on the "There Are Those," who say or said it wouldn't work, or it wasn't the right time to try this or that.

The whole world needs to declare was on the There Are Those.

The only part I really don't like is the "looking forwards rather than backwards" crap. That's wonderful if you're being the bigger man and overlooking someone else's farkups. It really sounds shifty when blame is being placed on you. I wonder if that would hold up in court?

Having seen actual video of President Obama's response to that question, yes he did pause frequently as he framed his answer. For those of you unfamiliar with the process, this is typical when one is actually thinking their answer through. You'll notice that if you remove the pauses, the words actually fit together into mostly cogent thoughts and ideas, unlike certain other people who recently vacated the White House with their "strategery" and "nucular" and myriad other offenses to the English language, nay, to coherent thought itself.

I'm not "reduced" to anything. The man is out of his element. Every day he proves it more. But hey, we always have hopeunchange.

Yeah, he's so out of his element that he single-handedly negotiated a truce between the French and Chinese Presidents on a sticking point that allowed greater negotiations to move forward. I hate it when my President does crap like that.

Heard something interesting today: in order for a political meme to "stick" with the public, it must contain / reinforce something already known to be true. Consider:

Clinton = Skirt-chaser
Bush = Dumb
Cheney = Evil

That said, I hope the right keeps pushing these "Obama is dumb and a bad speaker" ideas.

Gee, you would think that would be all over the internet. Haven't seen it. But then again I have not been online in a few days. Could you send me some confirmation of that?

And make sure it's not some type of thing where the 'fighters' in that debate aren't just saying "whatever" so they can regroup (much like a Palestine 'cease-fire')

burndtdan: more like, because it had no substantive answer. i don't really care about how he answered it, i was saying the question itself was retarded.

Fair enough. It's a pretty important question here though, because the various European partners are blaming each other (Well, France and Germany blamed the UK, and the UK did the British thing and blamed the US)

But I do agree, not only is there no substantive answer, but what difference does it make anyway? That horse has bolted.

sloppy shoes 2009-04-03 01:29:24 AM
I actually think he answered the question well.

1. The first part of the question- who is to blame- is indeed retarded. You're either trolling politicians as a reporter, or seriously stupid if you expect a real answer. Everyone is to blame, but only those with political gain will call out others. Obama is trying to unite the world. Asking him to call out others isn't a realistic question.

2. The second part was answered pretty well. Obama addressed the heart- our in ability and unwillingness to approach a regulatory framework in a serious manner. This was both Europe's and America's fault- especially when you consider that Europe handed off regulatory oversight to a country that was obviously trying to get away from it for 20+ years.

Now, it certainly is easy to get blushed and flummoxed at our leader because he speaks without definitive clarity when withheld from a teleprompter, and you are welcome to criticize him for it. (Though a brash and childish criticism it is). However, the man did indeed answer the question to an important level. If you were expecting a thorough rundown of each regulation change- as was implied in the sarcastic comments inserted in by the author- you are a retard, however.

the question basically boils down to "do you think britain is also to blame?"

subjective at best, and pointless anyways.

and the followup, about that question being at the core of the debate, is stupid. britain was allied with america there. the contention was between america/britain and france/germany. so if america was to blame alone, or both america and britain, it didn't really have any meaningful reflection on the points of contention.

You don't understand. That fact that he doesn't do anything stupid unless he's not using a teleprompter is what's important, because that just proves that with the teleprompter, his stupidity is magnified by the fact that he doesn't do anything stupid. And his wife hugged the Queen.

I AM OUTRAGED BY MY SPURIOUS LOGIC!

Norad: You petty folks who have nothing better to fall back on than the 'teleprompter' attack on Obama?

No, I prefer things with more substance - like appointing tax evaders into his administration, such as:
1. Timothy Geithner who owed $42,000 in back income taxes and is now the treasury secretary.
2. Nancy Killefer who failed to pay unemployment compensation taxes for domestic help and had a lien placed on her home as a result.
3. Tom Daschle who was nominated to be Secretary of Health and Human Services,who owed more than $140,000 in back taxes and interest.

But he is the messiah Obama; so you idiots can overlook it and continue your worship of your appointed God. Meanwhile, Obama is printing money and just throwing it at problems since he doesn't have a real solution to the economic crisis. But that's ok, throwing away your children's future doesn't matter - as long as you have that big house, new car, and new 52" plasma TV.
