If she wrote a song about how her fans need to riot and burn down their office, I'd probably do it.

MaxxLarge: I thought she was dead.

I can assure you that as of last Sunday, rumors album titles of her demise were greatly exaggerated.

That's also the only concert I've ever gone into not a fan and came out a huge dorkin' fan. It kicked ass, muchly.

I put her on my "meh" list for Coachella, as I was never a fan of the Dresden Dolls. You're saying that the live show is worthwhile, though?

It'll be fun if the label sues her for breach of contract.

/I'm sure they'll find a way

I didn't really like the Dolls either, I borrowed her songs and tried listening to them in my iPod, and I was unimpressed.

But the show? Holy gods, wow. The difference with her live is the energy and personality. It edged out The Offspring back in '96 as my favorite concert. That was 4 hours of "pretty hard to top." And it takes a lot to impress my jaded ass.

I was really getting to like her, but she ended with Hallelujah, which I hate. I hate that everyone covers it, I hate anyone who does it. But, she sold it unlike I've ever heard. It was like going to a magic show and watching the magician set up the perfect wimpy, copout, rabbit-out-of-a-hat fail, only to summon some Lovecraftian eldritch creature that devours 1/2 the first row. It was a "fark YOU, YOU WILL LIKE ME." And I did.

Go if she goes touring again. $20 and 3-4 hours isn't a lot to sacrifice to find out if you like her more live.

palladiate: borrowed

And by borrowed, I don't mean pirated, I mean borrowed from my wife's collection. I did buy a copy of her CD for myself at the show. The only other thing I had on me to get autographed was my DS. Although, I totally should have had the balls to ask her to sign it for me.

Like I said, she's gonna be at Coachella (link^ if you're unfamiliar), I'll check her out there.

Saturday looks badass. Amanda, Thievery Corporation, Chemical Brothers... neat.

I'd shoot myself if I went Friday or Sunday though.

What was she doing on Roadrunner in the first place? They're a metal label.

I don't really like her music, but I think she's awesome.

Tor_Eckman [TotalFark] 2009-04-02 03:41:15 PM
Wow. I'm old, so I never even heard of her or the Dresden Dolls before this thread. But I just watched her on YouTube do I Can't Say No from Oklahoma with the Boston Pops followed by War Pigs with Brian.

I'm sold.

Now I remember why I like her.

It surprised me when I found out they were on Roadrunner. I like a lot of Roadrunner bands, but, ummm....what the hell were they doing on that label.

It was like an experiment trying to get into other genres. It didn't work, so they just stopped paying attention to them.

Or course...they can always try Nuclear Blast.

I like Dresden Dolls CDs but not the clips of the live shows I've found online.

No, friend. Fugazi is the model of anti-corporate music making.

Just who is this chick?

There was a link somewhere two-3 months back about how she sucked - with a video link and she wasn't terrible; now all this mad love for her.

The live shows are awesome. I've seen them 4 times and it's always been incredible. A lot more humor than you'd expect from some of their material, and an amazing amount of energy.
/Met them in Chicago in '07 at the True Colors Tour

As someone who has only recently fallen in love with Dresden Dolls and Amanda Palmer, I am thoroughly enjoying this.

I wish I'd have been able to see her when she came to New Orleans a few weeks ago. I heard the show was great.

Sylvia_Bandersnatch 2009-04-03 03:29:34 AM
One of the few acts I've seen that totally sold me with one show. And one of the very few who convinced me to buy all their music on the spot. It's true that the recordings don't do justice to the live show, but still worth it.

And her belly fat is perfectly fine.

I like that one, too. The video for "Oasis" was originally dedicated to Sara Palin and well worth the watch:

She can't just tell the world how record labels choose new talent like that. I predict she will die from "accidental" autoerotic asphyxiation some time soon.

alphabet pony 2009-04-03 09:37:37 AM
I followed her on Twitter for a while. She would schedule impromptu gatherings in cities where she was at to hang out with fans. So cool.

I hope she gets dropped!

I see what you did there...

Amanda Farking Palmer rules...even accounting for her bad, bad case of Twitterrhea. Except that's one of my favorite things about her.
