Hmmm. There seems to be a gap on the tape, as discussed in the article. This doesn't look good by any stretch, but I'd like to hear the explanation for the gap.

I hope the investigation into ACORN continues and we'll finally be able to see what the hell these people have been up to.

Ready?

So basically the world's most biased "news" station (Fox) has the bloviator in chief (O'Reilly) play a tape in which some words are redacted where a reporter intimates that a story was shiat canned for political reasons. The New York Times flatly denies the accusation.

The Bill O'Reilly talks to known Democratic antagonist Dick Morris for 5 minutes and the two of them speculate about what dark secrets Acorn is hiding and the Morris accuses the Obama administration of illegal activity, without any evidence.

The ironies here are A) Fox News B) Bill O'rly C) Dick Morris D) making shiat up and E) assmitter's "Evidence mounts"

This is the best that Republicans got; 18 page glossy catch-phrases and empty speculation about the President.

So much for the party of Lincoln and Roosevelt.

A newspaper decides not to publish a smear story based on speculation to sway an election? And this is a bad thing?

Agreed totally -- no matter what side of the political aisle you are on, let's see the truth.

That being said, the alleged redaction of part of the tape sure makes you go "hmmmm...."

That's not true. See there's this organization called ACORN and a black guy is president. What more could you possibly need?

Translated: "My editor realized that we would get sued for libel against a presidential candidate because we have no evidence to support the claims of this story."

Shocking.

Bloody William 2009-04-02 12:23:52 PM
Besides turning in invalid and fraudulent voter registration (which they were legally bound to turn it, even if they thought [and told election officials] they were fraudulent), what exactly did ACORN do? What was its big crime? What are they saying it accomplished in undermining democracy, besides just being the big ACORN-shaped boogeyman?

Remember how angry the Right was then?

Diogenes [TotalFark] 2009-04-02 12:31:27 PM
People were linking Obama to ACORN regardless. And this "smoking gun" is a bit on the wispy side. Yes, the voicemail sounds fishy. But what "ties" to ACORN were they supposedly burying, that were any worse than what people already believed during the campaign?

No, he resigned because if he hadn't he would have been impeached for fundamentally undermining American democracy by wiretapping American citizens without a warrant, political espionage, break ins, and money laundering.

The tapes were his lame ass attempt to cover up some stuff.

There's a reason that Ford pardoned him, ya know.

They ran a suspect story based on flimsy evidence NYT didn't.

RemyDuron 2009-04-02 01:34:02 PM
That would be interesting if ACORN actually was corrupt in any meaningful way. It isn't a 100% perfect organization, so it must be corrupt, I guess.

But these are the people who think of big businessmen as our saviors. . .

Only in the run up to the war in Iraq. Which I'm sure the Independents are aghast about.
