This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen.

I have a better solution: put tap water in a pitcher and pour it into glasses.

are you kidding? first, you have to buy the glassware. then, you have to buy detergent and pay to have someone do the dishes. let's not mention all the extra water used to wash the glasses and pitcher. why do you hate america?!?!

Why can't they drink out of the hose like real Americans?

Every week, a college student who earns $9.92 an hour for a range of tasks

It's not like it's their only job. And $10 /hr in L.A. county? They're not exactly making this kid rich or anything.

Although I do think relabeling the water is short bus special. Give them glasses and pitchers of water, for chrissakes!

Make them reuse their bottles. It's not like they are biodegradable.

They could do what a college I worked for did and simply have customized bottled water bottles and labels. Seriously, each bottle cost over a dollar just to have the school's name on it. I can think of much better ways to spend the money than that.

Incoming "bottled water is bullshiat because I can't taste any difference and I saw it on Penn & Teller where they picked the best municipal water supply in the country as the control" dipshiats.

Newsflash: some areas have shiatty tap water. And Penn & Teller are so full of bullshiat they are in danger of exploding.

They should have to go out and slang crack like the rest of the hard working kids in LA.

I can see where a group with the prestige of the L.A. County Board of Supervisors would want to avoid product placement without first being properly compensated.

There is nothing wrong with this. We need universal government action to grade the quality of products like this that typically swindle customers. LA notices this and is taking initiative on it. Good for them.

great to know what fark thinks of Keynesian economics. This serves a purpose: it puts money in people's hands, then they go and spend it, then the economy works...

/....then ????
/........then profit

If I were a public official, especially in local politics, I would never drink from a container I did not open myself at work. Some people are batshiat insane, and local county board meetings seem to be a favorite gathering place for the complete loons.

I can understand the rationale behind the label change, seems a bit silly though.

Yes...Im sure the Board is giving him/her a WIDE variety of socially redeeming activities...not

Gimme a break

Have they considered asking a supplier to provide a few cases of water that didn't go through the labeling machine? Although I expect that may be illegal because it won't mention how much other stuff is in the water... Now I wonder if relabeling the bottles like they do now isn't illegal as well.

That was my first thought, too. I mean, I've seen people order them for weddings and many other one-day, single-time events.

/Used to work making up gift bags.

My guess is that he/she is basically the "office biatch" and does whatever they're told.

So why don't you give me a break.

Meh, it's spare-student busywork.

They have to have a certain number of student interns around the county offices, who get paid their $9.72/hr whether they work or not. So one day a week, some poor grunt (probably whoever shows up late that day) gets the unenviable task of making water bottles.

On the days they don't make water bottles, they're filing files that have been unfiled since 1941, Xeroxing copies of copies for some reason, and making coffee. Otherwise, they'd be sitting at their "desks" filing their nails and playing on Facebook. Frankly, as long as I'm paying for them, let them make water bottles.

Then someone has to be paid to clean the glasses.

It's a conundrum!
