Everything in the song is mocking the current state of affairs.

The lyrics quite obviously, but apparently the dance-beat rock is a bit more subtle.

/All Manson ever was was social commentary, get with it

Sounds of Silver is a fantastic album.

I don't understand...to me it sounds just like all his other stuff. It is exactly what I expect from my Marilyn Manson experience.

All Manson ever was was social commentarya dude trying to line his pockets with as much cash as possible, get with it

Hey, kids need something to piss off their parents. Better Manson than ICP.

Some of the stuff on Mechanical Animals was awesome. Must have been better drugs then.

flaminglip: Hmm. Methinks if you run your vocals through a distortion pedal on EVERY SONG you might be trying to hide something.

And how the fark did he get to bang Rose Mcgowan?

Its not fair.

Not fair I say!

It's not a distortion pedal. His voice really is that raspy. Ever hear the guy talk?

I was huge into Manson in high school, but that petered off as I got older. I don't dislike his music now, but now I put him in the "fun to rock out to and see live" box, as opposed to something I'd really take the time to sit down and listen to.

He does write some damn clever lyrics though.

I'm not ashamed to say that I like Marilyn Manson. He's not my favorite artist or anything, but he's pretty good at what he does.

barneyfifesbullet 2009-04-01 11:01:34 AM
He should go on another Boo Tour.

carmody: Hey, kids need something to piss off their parents. Better Manson than ICP.

only if it is still 1998.

He used to be fun. Now he just tries too hard to be controversial and his music, while never that good, has sunk to a new level of suck. And the only thing worse than a Manson fan circa 1998? Manson fans circa 2009. Seriously, debating Manson's "layers of meaning" with them is one of the saddest things ever. For fark's sake, if you like his music, fine; but don't try to add that his lyrics are anything deeper than "boo!"

radioberlin 2009-04-01 11:39:59 AM
That does sound a lot like Trent's stuff lately but a little more... I wish I had a different word than awful.

FeedTheCollapse 2009-04-01 11:52:15 AM
Manson is Industrial now? I can see it.. sort of. Rammstein is closer, but I wouldn't go so far as to say they're Industrial either.

Mirrorz 2009-04-01 11:53:39 AM
I like it better than that last album. The tempo is faster at least and I can't tell if that's Wes Borland on guitar or not.

Nice, another Rammstein fan.
Although after Sehnsucht they've lost their "industrial/4x4 dance-oriented sound" and are more Metal.

frepnog 2009-04-01 01:24:21 PM
as a long time manson fan, i like the track. it is about what i expect from manson.

Already Disturbed 2009-04-01 01:31:06 PM
he was always too clever/deliberately stupid/theatrical to be taken seriously, but i like some of his stuff
/"They Say That Hell's Not Hot" off his last record is great

peeny bunslinger [TotalFark] 2009-04-01 02:15:54 PM
Sounds like a shiat-tarnished mash-up of LCD Soundsystem and Mindless Self Indulgence.

Definitely ripped-off LCD Soundsystem. Lyrics are wayyy too similar to North American Scum and the concept is exactly the same.

This.

I'm not into Manson like I used to be either, but he still puts out some good stuff, and ACSS still rocks. His heyday is over and he is smart enough to know that, but he still does some interesting things.

/too many links and shiat to hear song, I'll probably pirate the album when it comes out
//would have loved to see them on the MA tour, but couldn't go

Like NIN, Manson is industrial-influenced, but has never claimed that label himself. Lazy media might use that term for him, but so what. I guess it does get industrial fans a little butthurt...

/meh

i, for one, love manson. i think his influence will be felt for many years to come. perhaps not in the shock category, but his music is very well written, composed and performed.

i've been revisiting smells like children lately. i used to listen to that album thinking it was like listening to music on an evil carnival ride, until i started picking up on the theme - willy wonka meets gore/snuff/horror films. and yes, i know, it's a pretty obvious theme, but i never really put two and two together. the more i listen to it, the more it starts to work as an entire piece, which i like.

and manson is not industrial. i don't even think the most industrial band out there can be simply labeled as industrial. it's all fusion from mutliple genres. it just makes it easy for simple ears and minds to grasp what one artist/group may sound like as opposed to just "rock", or "metal".

it's all just music, man. dig it.

Trunks378 2009-04-01 09:26:48 PM
This is a pretty big insult to LCD Soundsystem to compare MM's crap to it.

Author is nuts. "North American Scum" does not sound like "Homosapien" by Pete Shelley.

ACSS was a terrific album, but that was mostly because of the production (Reznor FTW). Mechanical Animals was also unbelievably great, and that was all Manson and the boys, but it didn't sell that well so they started pandering like mad.

Everything since then has been farking awful.

lolwut?

Mechanical Animals has sold over 8 million copies, making it the second best-selling Marilyn Manson album. (from wiki)

I agree that the music has gone downhill, but while MA didn't get the sales of ACSS, I think it did pretty well...
