Has anyone ever seen Ministry perform "Jesus Built my hotrod" live? Because I suspect they never did. Sure, gibby Haynes signs the vocals, but that shouldnt stop them from playing it. My suspicion is that the guitars are so layered on "Jesus" that its kind of impossible to replicate, but I could be wrong

It would be really really funny to watch him sign the vocals.

doesn't stop 'em from trying it. Live versions of all their songs are different from the studio. Shoot, ever heard "In Case You Didn't Feel Like Showing Up?"

"Just One fix" is an incredible video. It probably could never be shown these days because of all the drug references and vomiting. Who knew we would be looking back at the more censorship-free days of 1992? The 12" version of the song is great too.

meh. This might have been cool if it had come out 15 years ago, but I've moved on--they weren't that good.

I think they played in in '92 when I saw them. I would have noted it if they hadn't. Supernaut was the best song they played that night.

A friend of mine went to see them in Tulsa circa 1990-ish... The band was throwing out broccoli and cans of LA Beer (remember that shiat?). My buddy, thinking the broccoli was surely laced with hallucinogens -- it wasn't -- ate a bunch of it off the floor of the SRO club. Yum.

I will definitely be picking this up.

Just got the 1000 Homo DJs album. Did they ever do anything besides Supernaut?

No. However there is an alternate release of Supernaut with an uncredited (and less distorted) Trent Reznor on the vocals published on several compilations.

The next step would be to pick up the Pailhead EP with "I Will Refuse" on it.

I wonder if they'll show any footage of them WISHING they were Skinny Puppy?

It took me months to like Rabies because Jourgensons guitar stink was all over it. Of course, that was immediately when it came out and I was still drooling over VIVIsectVI and wasn't ready for songs like Tin Omen.

HHHO? Any comments or anything to add?

They tried it on a few dates with Frankie from Thrill Kill Kult singing. It didn't work, so they dropped it.

Thanks for everybody answering. So they do play "hotrod" live, once in a while... they never did when i saw them, never seen it on a bootleg and never saw a youtube of it.

Ill just add that I was excited when I saw that live CD of Ministry doing "smothered hope" and was fairly disappointed when I actually heard it .... nothing like seeing Pigface perform it with Nivek back in early 90s. That was an awesome show

but I agree with what you said about "rabies" (I too remember they released vivi-rabies-toodarkpark in quick succession)... I didnt mind the guitars but the album wasnt up to par with vivi, the only big highlight on it for me is "Hexonknox" (sp?)... love this song.

Gotta love the fake british accent, especially on "Revenge."

As far as the disks are concerned.....meh. Grandpa Al will do anything to squeeze a few more pennies out of the Ministry name. Hell, he franchised RevCo! There is no Van acker, no Al, no Connolly. What once was is now dead.
Speaking of Connolly, if you haven't read his book "Concrete, Bulletproof, Invisible and Fried: My Life As A Revolting Cock," do so as it is very entertaining.

The problem with Filth Pig is that is awesome but not AS awesome as the other early albums. It's sort of like Metallica's "black" album...a great album in its own right, but it represents the end of the line and is a 9/10, just not a 10/10 like the previous stuff.

I'll take Filth Pig over just about any other "inudstrial" album out there from the mid-late 90s...

The Mind Is... was my first Ministry album I bought. Somehow, despite being more polished than The Land of Rape and Honey, it sounds MUCH more dated. I rarely listen to it. The Land of Rape and Honey is where it's at.

That said, Filth Pig is under-rated, but not entirely undeserving of the shiat it gets. It really would've made a better EP than album.(Reload, Filth Pig, Useless, The Fall, Lay Lady Lay*, Brick Windows) Animositisomina is also very good, though. Sounds like a much more consistent Filth Pig. Though everything afterward was a bit of a disappointment as it focused way too much on concept than music, but at least it was a better way to go out than Dark Side of the Spoon.

*you can substitute this for something else. I like it.

The song is actually called HexxOnExxon, but for obvious reasons they couldn't poke gargantuan, filthy rich bear that is Exxon Oil so they changed some letters and called it Hexonxonx.

Of course, Two Time Grime is the best song on the album, next to Warlock.

I saw Gibby on stage for "Jesus Built My Hotrod" at the Backroom in Austin. That show kicked ass. The best Ministry show was Lollapalooza II outside of Houston. That was a farking show.

THIS!

Please, can we stop humoring geriatric heroin addic........er, i mean heroes of rivethead lore? They (Ministry,TKK, RevCo, Pigface, Skuppy,KMFDM sans En esch or Guenter, etc) do not possess the magic they once did and it is unfortunate and sad that they can't go quietly into the night, while bands that may not have had the name recognition of those aforementioned bands (Die Warzau, for example) are still kicking ass without having to regurgitate poorly contrived metal. After all, aint it dead yet?

/Wax Trax FTW!

I saw Ministry at Bill Graham. Melvins opened. James Hetfield showed up to mess around. Final parts of the show had all the bands on stage going nuts. Great show.

Pigface played SF that year too, best show I've ever seen live.
