Say what you want, Siamese Dream is incredible. All tied together by the hum that plays thru that whole album. As far as in '90s go, in my opinion, and it is only my opinion, only Ten is on par. And nevermind Nevermind. Siamese Dream blows it away.

Three Crooked Squirrels: Siamese Dream is incredible.

I liked Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie & The Infinite Sadness, in spite of it being overplayed.

But those are the only two Smashing Pumpkins albums I own.

You know, using properly grounded equipment, and perhaps the judicious use of a noise gate, would have gotten rid of that hum.

/Learned that when I was in a rock band.

Hells yes to that. And I'm a drummer. Why should guitars get all the solos?!

Shoot, even Sting could have written that; he actually erased a track or two of hi-hat fills that Stew did for "Every Breath You Take"* when he wasn't in the studio.

/*Great story in an issue of TapeOp with the recording engineer...

This has got to be for publicity...
They can just hire a good drummer, pro drummers who already have press kits they can sift through instead of appealing to the public.

Every time there's been a Smashing Pumpkins greenlight, since 2005, the resultant thread is identical to every single SP-related thread that came before, from "they suck" to "Siamese Dream rocked" to the venerable "everything after Gish was shiat."

Shouldn't the law of diminishing returns hold that these threads be getting 0 replies by now?

Nor did the law didn't apply to U2, Radiohead, NIN, or just about any other fark.com/music thread.

is this some kind of recent phenomena? Sure, Gish did not have complete and utter shiat like Disarm, but Siamese Dream definitely had more memorable tracks.

that said, go write another book of poetry to cry in, Corgan.

How is this any different from when Billy Corgan went solo? Oh right, its not. Smashing Pumpkins stopped existing after Machina, and quite honestly, stopped being good a ways before that.

stop making excuses for mediocrity. Just because SP at their worst are better than Nickelback are at their best (a dubious claim since Nickelback never wrote Disarm) doesn't detract from the fact that SP hasn't been good in a damn long time.

It really was Adore that started the downfall, and everyone knew it at the time. I can still listen to that album and those following it, and I understand that Billy was trying to go in another direction, but it was just...boring. Machina I, Machina II, the Zwan mistake, the latest album. All boring.

I've always maintained that Siamese Dream was my favorite album, but I do think they were at their peak with Mellon Collie. In fact, of all of their discs, the one I currently listen to the most is the compilation I made from the Aeroplane box (B-sides to Mellon Collie).

not until you admit Disarm is seriously one of the worst songs by anyone ever. I would probably take a Nickelback/Limp Bizkit/Linkin Park mash-up over another listen to Disarm.

Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie were my favorite. Adore was a weird change. I liked Machina because it was really easy to pick up, but clearly not their best material. I really stopped listening once Machina II came out and haven't been excited one bit about anything Billy Corgan has been up to since.

Why can't people tell the difference between fact and opinion?

Pathetic

SP - the bands over all sound was good back in the early 90s, but yea - what a whiney woman on vocals, huh? Couldn't imagine being on stage with the sound of a cat in heat song after song.

I got free tickets to their concert in Davenport last August (8/8/08) and sat in the third row. They played a good show, even if they're not someone I listen to excessively. A friend of mine had balcony seats, and he asked my impression of the show. I said it was great for what it was. He said that he could barely hear Billy's "strangled, womany vocals" over the guitars, bass, and drums.

"I said it was great for what it was."

Good attitude. Thats exactly the response my partner and I give when asked directly about a bands performance. Very diplomatic, especially when you run a recording studio...heahea hea. "It's not my kind of music, but it's good for what it is."

My girlfriend loathes the Pumpkins; her ticket went to my dad, who had a better time than me. What was interesting about that concert was that the first four rows were sitting, and everyone else was standing. It was...bizarre. For me, they're definitely a "greatest hits" band... I spent the nineties listening to classic rock, so I missed a lot of the "popular" stuff.
