The only conservative talk show host I listen to is Dennis Miller, who is yularious and moderate, but I've heard Limbaugh, et al. Rush is smart and not racist in any way. Hannity is dumb as dogshiat, Savage is a raving everythingphobe, and Reagan's kid is mentally retarded. Also, that Glenn Beck guy is a schmuck and I can't believe he's had two TV shows.

Elvis_Bogart: Ok then...name a racist thing he's said.

Responding to a Reuters report on a University of Chicago study that found that "a majority of young blacks feel alienated form today's government," Limbaugh asserted on February 5, 2007: "Why would that be? The government's been taking care of them their whole lives."

On August 23, 2006, discussing the CBS reality TV program, Survivor, in which contestants were originally divided into competing "tribes" by ethnicity, Limbaugh stated that the contest was "not going to be fair if there's a lot of water events" and suggested that "blacks can't swim." Limbaugh stated that "our early money" is on "the Hispanic tribe" -- which he said could include "a Cuban," "a Nicaraguan," or "a Mexican or two" -- provided they don't "start fighting for supremacy amongst themselves

Limbaugh added that Hispanics have "probably shown the most survival tactics," that they "have shown a remarkable ability to cross borders," and that they can "do it without water for a long time, they don't get apprehended, and they will do things other people won't do." When the Survivor producers decided to dissolve the show's racially segregated "tribes" after only two episodes, Limbaugh declared that "[t]here can only be one reason for this ... that is the white tribe had to be winning."

On February 14, 2006, Limbaugh invented a racial component to explain Iraq war veteran Paul Hackett's departure from the Ohio Democratic Senate primary race. While reporting on Hackett's decision to withdraw from the race against then-Rep. Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Limbaugh asserted: "And don't forget, Sherrod Brown is black. There's a racial component here, too," adding that "the newspaper that I'm reading all this from is The New York Times, and they, of course, don't mention that." In fact, Brown is white -- a point on which Limbaugh was corrected later in the program.

According to a June 7, 2000, Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting (FAIR) article, "[w]hen Carol Moseley-Braun (D-IL) was in the U.S. Senate, the first black woman ever elected to that body, Limbaugh would play the 'Movin' On Up' theme song from TV's 'Jeffersons' when he mentioned her. Limbaugh sometimes still uses mock dialect -- substituting 'ax' for 'ask'-- when discussing black leaders." FAIR also reported that "n 1992, on his now-defunct TV show, Limbaugh expressed his ire when Spike Lee urged that black schoolchildren get off from school to see his film Malcolm X: 'Spike, if you're going to do that, let's complete the education experience. You should tell them that they should loot the theater, and then blow it up on their way out

Shall I continue?

These excerpts are specifically designed to accomplish one thing: to make sure you never actually listen to Limbaugh's show, never actually give him a fair chance to speak his piece to you directly. So robmilmel, have you heard him?

Yes, I have listened to him on the rare occasion. My Mother was Rush's biggest fan-and even she admits that in the last decade he's gone, in her own words, "completely off his rocker".

I've listened to Rush off and on for a LONG time.

I remember when James Earl Jones did his "You're listening to the EIB network"

I remember him describing in detail how he slept in the Lincoln Bedroom when Bush 1 invited him to do so (and how he said it wouldn't influence his political opinion).

I remember his ill-fated TV show.

So believe me when I tell you: he's a narcissistic blow-hard who destroyed his physical body and his personal relationships, and anyone that emulates him or his opinions is an idiot.

That doesn't work when your hearing problem stems from Oxycontin abuse, Rush! haha

I made a point in my life to listen to as many sides of the argument as possible and listened to Rush for about four years, probably 3 out of five days a week.

I came to the conclusion that he couldn't make it as a coke-addicted, disliked top 40 DJ in the South, but noticed that there was a market for a character who could speak to his redneck constituency. So, he developed this character that would toe the Conservative line no matter how difficult that proved to be.

No matter how wacky the argument, no matter how absurd the logic, this "Rush" character would just keep speaking to the lowest form of his audience.

I think, at first, it was a clever trick to suck in the rubes and low-thinkers in the world - and it worked. Just like rodeos, monster-truck shows and America's Funniest Home Videos, Rush filled a need for the stupidest among us and became very popular.

Alas, years of addiction to very powerful opiates caused Rush to believe his own game. What started out as a clever marketing ploy turned into a true delusion. The problem is, let's face it, there are a very high percentage of Conservative politicians who perfected this game long before Rush came along.

With these new friends, a hillbilly heroin buzz and lots of listeners, Rush anointed himself King of the Conservatives and now here he is.

Rush isn't entertaining. He's not intelligent. Don't get me wrong, he's smart in the way a kid who wants candy is a good con artist when grandma is around, but he really is an idiot.

In the time I spent listening to him, he remound me a bit of a conservative version of Phil Hendrie and Howard Stern. A guy who uses characters to get his point across, while using extreme words and behavior to push a message.

But, now, where those two other broadcasters use extreme methods to get real points across with true satire, Rush only uses crude "black accents" and racial comments to hurt and vilify.

Sadly, the hateful, stupid and ignorant outnumber the rest of us right now and as long as their venomous blood flows through the veins of our political system, Rush will be there to feed.

Statistically, they can't. More blacks drown per capita than any other racial group. But that's more due to socioeconomic factors than to race.

The better way to put it is "Poor people can't swim."

Oh, by the way, they're learning quickly...

How can we forget Rush's short-lived football commentating career, kicked off with this demonstration of his appreciation for the subtleties of quarterbacking skills:

"I think what we've had here is a little social concern in the NFL. The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well,"

Why anyone gives this blowhard the time of day, never mind prime broadcasting slots, remains a mystery to me.

I have to respectfully argue against this theory. I grew up in the US Virgin Islands and most people there (70% negro) could not swim. Keep in mind it is a 32 square mile island in the middle of the Caribbean...

The author has a point.

Like I've said before, most of the people complaining on Fark about Rush have heard less than an hour of the program in their whole lives. They have no idea what he's about or what he says.

He's not like Hannity or Levin. He's not just a screaming angry mouthpiece.

Take the guy's challenge. Listen to the show. At the very least, you'll have a better appreciation for the other side.
