wait, WHAT???
no mention in article of said belt
but....

anyone want to bet on the follow up story?
"camera found in changing room where free dresses were given away"

what_now [TotalFark] 2009-03-29 04:34:33 PM
The only weird thing about this is the random chastity belt mention. This is not uncommon- I've donated every hideous bridesmaid dress I've ever been forced into to the Cinderella Project.

There really IS a girl out there who wants a see through limegreen taffeta A line dress. It's just not me.

JayAndSilentBob [TotalFark] 2009-03-29 04:53:05 PM
This town is such a shiathole that they can't even sell houses for ONE DOLLAR. Due to our proximity to Elkhart, jobs are scarce and unemployment high. The city's tax base is horribly eroded by an oversized airport, multiple colleges, a preponderance of religious and other non-profit organizations, and abandoned houses. Ever since Studebaker closed up in the 1960s, this town has been going downhill. These free prom dresses are likely to be the high points of some of these girls' lives. This area needs help.

Love,
JayAndSilentBob

Oh. That's not exciting.

I read the topic as "Indiana town gives away free porn". Once you get the the porn part, you don't read the rest.

I'm sure some fetish group sees this as the perfect jackpot.

Ugly ass dresses for free, sweet, but who cares.

Looks a little late for the chastity belt.

Love the landing strip though!

One of the sororities here does this every year. I think it's sweet.

I didn't see any mention of a chastity belt... did I miss something?

ttintagel 2009-03-29 06:57:21 PM
Our town does something similar, but you have to bring an old dress in to get a new one. Well, a new-used one.

I was given a free dress when I was in high school, but still couldn't go to the prom because the tickets were too expensive and it was held in a hotel an hour's drive away.

Obviously, the dress doesn't need it, the chick herself is easy access.

We did this in Wichita for years. I loved working on the project. We expanded it to tuxes for the guys, too, once we got a local store to donate them.

Why is Rick James wearing a dress...

Never mind, I really don't want to know.

This is done by the local dry cleaners. They also collect winter coats for those in need.

FTFA: "Ziker Cleaners say more than 1,200 gently used prom dresses were collected for the event, which last year helped more than 500 girls from 58 area high schools. "

Did they give each girl 2 dresses?

JayAndSilentBob: This town is such a shiathole that they can't even sell houses for ONE DOLLAR.

1 dollar plus 80 thousand of work for houses that won't sell. I'm from a town like this too. I'm waiting for it to fail.

Indiana is good for stuff you can light on fire (cigarettes, fireworks, and Everclear).

That's about it.

I mentioned this in another thread, but I worked ten minutes north of South Bend for a good part of last year, and tried really f--king hard to find anything redeeming about that town (other than the existence of an office supply store and an OK NPR station I impulsively became a member of).

I have to go back there sometime this month. For the love of God, if there is something I missed, please, someone, tell me.

Speaking of God, there's a 50/50 chance when I saw an idiot driving on the road around those parts, they had a In God We Trust Indiana plate. Oh, memories.

I didn't really read the story. I was too distracted by a link to a another story where some guy in Mass. decapitated his 5 year old sister in front of cops. Damn.

Pretty much what I was thinking after reading the article.

Who's working behind the controls on this Sunday evening at Fark headquarters. That was one of the suckiest articles I've ever read on Fark.

Omnivorous: Now, if only South Bend had an influential university with conservative beliefs? Like hating stem cell research and the President of the United States.

Is there some explanation as for why the darkies always wear the most hideous prom dresses and tuxes?

There has to be some explanation.

I would be fine with setting Indiana law schools on fire, so long as we do it in the next four weeks so I don't have to take my finals.
