My grandfather made the best blintzes and latkes. I should really get the recipe off my mom...

The best latkas I ever had in my life were a little portable stand (sort of like a roach coach) that would park outside the cathedral in Cologne, Germany.

I have made them myself a few times, and they were not bad, but those greasy things from Germany were to die for. I hate to think how many calories one had!

Appropriate yamaka?

Some brands contain non-vegetable glycerin which is not.

WTF is all this pandering for Jews? WTF? There are more atheists than Jews and yet there is a tip-toe, compaisant culture for Jews.
I'll start my own religion, call it the "Do-as-my-beliefs-dictate-or-you-will-be-sued-and-blacklisted-for-all-time" religion. First commandment is "Thou shalt not piss me off"

It's only for gold-brown and reposado tequila because it's aged Glycerin may be added for concerns of color, flavoring,and density. All they have is a list of what's ok-

* Agave 99 (with OU)
* Don Bernardo G (with OU)
* El Diamante Del Cielo (with OU)
* Herrudura
* Salusa
* Sol Dios Anejo (OU)
* Sol Dios Platinum / Blanco (OU)
* Stallion (with OU)
* Tonala (with OU)

Silver says a half million cases of the 99-proof kosher tequila are being produced at a Mexican plant using methods certified by a rabbi. It will retail for $41.95 a bottle.

Just so you know: the stereotype is that Jews like money a lot. Just sayin', man.

Said it in another thread- being jewish is about being jewish. It's about retaining an identity and connection to something bigger than yourself. To not do those things would be like letting part of yourself die. On subjects of science, ethics, and tolerance I've found jews to be some of the most reasonable people on earth. This isn't about that. Or at least that's how it was explained to me.

If your national identity is that connected to arbitrary dietary laws, you might want to reconsider some things. Tradition shouldn't be use as an excuse to do stupid things.

Tradition: The annual celebration of the battle of Camerone primarily consists of getting drunk as a pig for 2 days. Does that fall under "stupid", or "awesome"? (OK, it's French, not Jewish, but I'm sort of short on time....)

Amen, and what are you, crazy? Just be thrilled their arbitrary traditions don't involve smiting infidels or cutting out clits. And the cane-sugar coke is delicious, believe the hype.

It's obviously awesome! "Don't eat pork" is stupid. "Drink a lot" is great. It's easy.

Oh, believe me, I am glad of the fact that their traditions are mostly benign. Jews are among the least annoying religious groups that I've known. Also, I have a lot of respect for their culture's emphasis on fancy book learnin'. It's just, you know, religious superstitions all seems so ridiculous when you're outside looking in.

A lot of jews keep kosher for ethical reasons. There are some bizarre rules (actually not that bizarre considering modern food hygiene is less than 100 years old), but kosher meat is also meat that has been slaughtered in a humane fashion. Sometimes even going futher . Then, of course, there's eco kosher.

But this is fark.com, so LOL JEWS ARE TEH STUPIT.

Now that's ironic
... considering Taters first arrived in England and thus Ireland when Sir Francis Drake brought them back from his expedition the New World. They are indigenous to South America, same with Tomatoes. Which might also be why their name's are so similar.

Aw, c'mon, however badly they execute it, the intention of the FDA is logical. Religious laws are often not.

Difficulty, no appeal to tradition or G*d.

That depends on who you ask. The people who keep Kosher think it makes sense. The Lord wrote the bible, this law is in the bible, therefore I should follow this law.

You may or may not believe in it. But it is logical.

The Duke of Carrot Flowers 2009-03-29 04:33:32 PM
The Duke of Carrot Flowers: Not eating bacon has nothing to do with ethics. It's illogical and, yes, stupid.

Well, if you're conscious about your health, not eating bacon is wise.

I love to drink. If this helps the Jews come to my table, I welcome you all. Tequila is the great equalizer.
