Isn't he basically a member of Lonely Island now? I see him in, like, every video.

Now, take it to the chorus!

When he first came out he was funky in an old-school Michael Jackson kind of way but the doucheness of the whole "bringing sexy back" nonsense kind of ruined it.

Ya know... I don't listen to his music, but the guy really doesn't bother me. He seems like he has a sense of humor, and doesn't take himself too seriously.

Agreed. I have to respect him for his attitude. I can't get into his music at all. Just not my style, but he has a good mentality towards thing.

Subby, the best day ever is when Paris Hilton builds her own space rocket and tries to fly to Mars with all her attention whore 'friends'.

Justin Timberlake, Johnny Depp, and Matt Dillon. Three guys I hated at first.

Herunar 2009-03-29 11:56:58 AM
To be honest, he's pretty good for pop music. You can see him trying to make an album with a unique style (where he fails) and which sells well at the same time (where he succeeds). He has little talent as a musician, but as a pop star you could appreciate his ability to see the trends in pop music and make a living out of it. He's also much less a douche than most musicians.

deevo 2009-03-29 12:33:49 PM
it takes two years of seclusion to make an album on which every track is co-written and co-produced by Timbaland and Danja (and that's only who's credited)?

I'd say he sets the trends too, Now every dude is singing along with crazy background synths instead of well, real music, but that works for them.

He's got a good voice, he's a good performer, and most importantly he possesses the capacity to make fun of himself. As far as I'm concerned, he's one of the better pop stars out there.

I hope he takes those two years off to improve the quality of SNL. Whenever he's on, he's hilarious.

I don't get the Timberlake hate. Sure, he dresses like a douche sometimes, but, as others here have pointed out, he's talented, can sing/dance better than most, and doesn't take himself too seriously. He doesn't bother me.

He's neck-in-neck with R.D., Jr. as having had the best image rehabilitation of anybody I've seen in the business of Show. From boy-band-and-Britney-reject punchline to respected-by-many musical artist, not-half-bad-actor and displayer-of-unexpectedly-acute-comedy-chops within a decade.

And this is from someone who'll never own one of his albums or films. (I not-all-that-begrudgingly respect the turnaround even if I don't personally take to heart all of the manifested demonstrations of his talents.)

I don't know if by "own" you mean "see" but Alpha Dog is a great film and he's great in it.

FreakinB 2009-03-29 06:45:33 PM
It's not my type of music, but I like Timberlake. He's funny as hell and seems to have a sense of humor. Plus I find it pretty decent for pop music. I'm not going to go out of my way to listen to it, but it's more than tolerable if someone else is playing it.

The thing I don't get is - and this applies to all music and not Timberlake only - if you don't like it then why the hell do you care or complain? Music's a subjective thing. Just listen to something else instead of biatching about it.

John Buck 41 2009-03-29 07:12:10 PM

Now what kind of place would Fark be if we all behaved like that?

That's an excellent point. In my experience, however, this is not a phenomenon that is limited only to Fark. Though it is more prevalent here, I'll give you that.

I'll grant you that he was the best thing about the whole enterprise acting-wise, but yeah, numbers-of-view-wise that fell into the category of "one-and-done" for me. As was "Black Snake Moan" (in which he also surpassed my expectation). Still screwing my courage up to attempt to view "The Love Guru".

Quoted for truth. I don't care what your musical tastes are that little bastard is talented in a number of ways, and being funny is one of those talents. He also doesn't take himself very seriously which is always a bonus.

Think about this: he was in N'Sync, the unlistenably predictable, computer-generated ultra-light pop/dance team. All of the other solo attempts by former members (JC Chasez, anyone?) were more of the same crap. His albums have been, at the very least, musical and listenable with great party songs. He effectively killed N'Sync long-term. Yay!

He also nailed and dumped Britney back when everyone was like "aw, sweet!" instead of "ew, gross!" We geeks should give credit where it is due.
