I ran out of gas once in a rental car (I had five minutes left until I was home free, the effing gage dropped like a lead balloon) and a cop stopped by and took me to a station to get gas. Even then, I had to sit in the back, and he had to open the door for me at the station.

At which point I realized that the first time in my adult life someone opens the car door for me, it's a cop. Sigh.

Anyhow, how in the hell did he manage to pull that off? He should've gone into selling Amway or something, if you can talk a cop into letting you sit up front...

The only time in my life that I was arrested, I got to sit in the front with no cuffs. Being calm and cooperative went a long way.

Looking back, though, there is NO WAY I would ever let someone do that if I were a cop. Way too dangerous.
