I don't know how true it is, but there's some statistics concerning racial differences on drug prosecutions. If i'm not mistaken, rich white people get far less focus from prosecutors than poor minorities.

My experience is admittedly limited and relatively local, but from what i've seen of kids who come from prominent political families most of them have varying levels of substance abuse issues.

I try not to hate too much on hypocritical conservatives who can't practice what they preach. I am firmly convinced that the some of the personality types that are drawn to national politics can also be drawn to definitively non-family-friendly attitudes and activities, and the only reason any politician runs on a family-values platform is because in some parts of the country so much of the electorate actually can and does live that way, that politicians everywhere on the political spectrum have to run on the family values platform if they ever want to get elected whether they believe in it or not.

I'm not an apologist. But I will say what I say when children of Republican candidates hit the news; leave the children out of it. Regardless of whether it is Joe Biden's daughter, Sarah Palin's daughter, Al Gore's son or whoever else, they are not supposed to be subject to this public scrutiny. They are not candidates and they haven't run for any position. At most they help out out of familial obligation. They should never be treated as an excuse to score cheap political points.
