I miss that girl. When her plane crashed, not only were we robbed of a great musical talent but a budding film star too.

Why does God take the good ones so young?

If I had a thoroughbred race horse, I'd just go out and admire him every day. I'd brush him and feed him carrots and smell his nice smell. Horses might be the Big Stupid, but they're the loveliest animals in the world.

Loveliest? I reserve that term for animals that don't get all bitey.

Alysheba was euthanized Friday night following a fall in his stall at the Kentucky Horse Park's Hall of Champions

Really? I heard earlier his condition had been upgraded to stable.

You know, based off of your *ahem* apparent affection of horses, there might be a certain type of internet fan fiction that might be right up your alley....

"As Sally brushed Buttercup's silky mane, she marvelled at his muscular build.... She knew these feelings were wrong but still..."

That's one hell of a long article for a dead horse.

Vern 2009-03-29 03:38:59 AM
Oh no, an animal died? We should make this a national day of mourning. Personally I hate horses. I've worked with horses, I've cared for horses. They are the most absolutely unintelligent animals in existence. You give them the benefit of the doubt because they don't flee when a human walks into the room. But as soon as you realize that moving a cardboard box completely freaks them out, you lose all respect for any intelligence that you thought they had. Even cows, which I've seen try to hide under each other when they heard a car backfire, seem more intelligent than a horse.

Harry_Seldon 2009-03-29 03:50:39 AM
I adore horses, but they are a mixed bag. It's silly when people criticize animals for their genetic behavior and characteristics.

Horses are a prey animal, deal with it. Do you really want a smart, omnivore horse who can plan stuff?

They are basically horse power. No smart animal will tolerate the burden they carried through human domestication.

As someone who lived on a horse farm, I completely agree.

Scrolling through, I thought that horse was doing something totally different to that dude...

Sort of a courthouse artist's rendering of the "Mr. Hands" video if you will.

I foxhunted yesterday aboard a magnificent horse named Monty. We jumped, we galloped, we bobbed and weaved through the woods, scambled up rocky, muddy hills, slid back down them, crashed through streams and did all of the above for hours. And through it all Monty took good care of me. He never fell, never unseated me, and soaked up the love at the end when I hugged and thanked him and gave him carrots.

There is STILL no mechanical contrivance that can outperform a horse for covering territory. All terrain capability, semi-automonous guidance, with an extended sensor suite that can hear and see better than me.

All packaged in a graceful and powerful piece of living artwork. They are the most noble creatures on the planet.

I have always wanted to foxhunt but I am afraid I am too much of a weenie to pull it off - I show saddleseat and I do know the feeling you are talking about. There is no better feeling than being carried around the ring by a horse that is there just to show everyone how great he is. My old country pleasure horse did not like other people very much but he always took great care to make sure I was okay even in the damndest situations...
