I had high hopes for Deval Patrick. But it's time to face facts...he's piss poor at his job

I had low hopes, and I agree.

My biggest hope was that coming out of the Clinton administration instead of the Beacon Hill insiders club he would not turn into a Cellucci or Swift when it came to dealing with the legislature.

A guy who worked for the state during the Weld administration told me Republicans were smart enough not to put things in writing. They need something done, they make a call. Some Democrats in Boston know that too, even if some don't. The legislature voted last week not to authorize wiretaps in political corruption cases.

I don't understand. He's behaving precisely as one would expect a Democratic Governor of Massachusetts to behave. He fits the bill perfectly.

for some reason, can anyone explain why?

The don't list what party Governor Deval Patrick is from?

If he was a Republican it would be in every para.

I think we're seeing the reason why Deval didn't get the call from the Obama administration that a lot of people were expecting.

Culture of Corruption

not one word about it in the left wing newspaper.

That's ops normal. And a badge to higher office, is Obama calling him?

While the Globe does have a liberal bias, the target audience of this story is local and pretty much anybody who cares about this story as local news knows the state is ruled by Democrats.

That being said, they did remind us a few years ago that Balfour (corrupt former MDC head) was a Republican.

I'm one of those who thought he was headed to Washington. He might have thought so too. There was a change in tone in press releases last fall emphasizing "Patrick-Murray administration" over "Patrick administration."

If papers actually REPORTED the news, instead of slanting the news.

They they would not be loosing money and going under. But then they now qualify for a bailout, don't they?

I think that has more to do with the fact that when the paper lands on your doorstep it is yesterdays news. Any newspaper that wants to survive would be better suited to report local news and such on the front page and leave the national/world news to small blurbs just in front of the classifieds.

Sonia Chang-Diaz and Sam Yoon are the future.

And I, for one, welcome our Asian overlords.

Come on now, I'm sure there are some straight female and gay male pols who appoint their gigolo boyfriends to high-paying patronage jobs also.

With Patrick you're talking about the former CEO of Ameriquest, one of the most egregious predatory lending outfits ever. That's right. Another criminal not just walking free but running your state.

But as to Marian, she does look like she'd be a lot of fun in the sack.

A lot of men and women get jobs they are not qualified to do simply based on "who" they know. This is common knowledge. Networking is a tool job seekers are supposed to learn because it helps you get jobs.

But the upper level jobs, the easy, high paying jobs, are almost exclusively reserved for buddies, relatives and relatives or friends of major clients. Not about skill. Problem seems revolting enough when it is standard practice in the private sector. Concerns do arise when our taxpayer dollars are paying for these cushy, unnecessary, overpaid positions of entitlement in Government.

This is a prime example, but not at all fair to say it only happens with women. Most of the positions are filled by men so one would assume that most of the abuse is perpetrated by men. Since most of the men are in the decision maker positions, they would appear to be most responsible for this government abuse.

Obama will be living up to his promise to CHANGE Washington if he weeds out this problem.

You can tell that Marion is tomcat in the sheets just from a headshot? Play on playa :-)

As far as Patrick goes I wonder if the Democratic party will let him make it through the primaries next year. He's definitely been a disappointment and this hiring mess sealed it for him. I don't understand why politicians think they can get away with stuff like this in the age of email.

Fark independent will somehow invoke this being Obama's fault.

This is so common it's not even funny.

When I worked for a federal agency (Under Dept of Commerce) they decided they wanted to hire a Total Quality Management person. (When that was the "gimmick" that was supposed to change things for the better.) Federal rules at the time required that they post the job in a certain number of public forums (pre-internet) and for at least 45 days.

The folks running my agency already had the person picked for the job, someone who had been under contract to teh agency, but who was about to lose her job as the contract was expiring. (Most of us "worker bees" thought her to be useless, but for some reason management was enraptured by her.)

So, when the job announcement came out, it was an amazing piece of work. You couldn't even tell what the job even entailed due to all the lingo, buzz words and shear BS in the job description. The qualifications for the job were so narrow that really only one person in the entire agency (out of about 1500 people) could match them (I don't think I have to clue you in as to who that one person was.)

She was the only applicant. Funny thing, she left after about 6 months on the job and whole TQM thing was left unstaffed and unfunded and seemingly never mentioned again. We were never quite sure how she was "connected" or what "favors" she had done to secure that position, but there had to be some quid pro quo going on because the whole thing was basically just an invention to get her a job.

Deval is a sucker. He should have claimed executive privilege like W. Cheney or "accidentally" erased the emails like C-Ray.

Speaking of W. Cheney, I'd love to see the emails behind hiring Brownie.

OK, I figured out the W. Cheney thing, which incidentally is roughly as clever as typing 0bama (that is to say, it's not). But who the fark are you talking about when you say "C-Ray"?

It's like this place turns into a Myspace message board on weekends.

Ray Nagin.

Got my forums mixed up--there's a story locally (I'm in the NOLA media market) where Nagin's emails from last year conveniently "disappeared" in violation of the sunshine laws.
